De KPWT heeft het event op Jamaica moeten cancelen. Ondanks alle toezeggingen heeft de lokale organisator JamRock Tours niets betaald.
Niet alleen de KPWT is de dupe, ook alle lokale ondernemers, overheden en horeca zijn bij de neus genomen. In het toch niet al te rijke Jamaica is dat natuurlijk zeer betreurenswaardig. Toen bleek dat de afgegeven bankgarantie geen enkele waarde had, is besloten om het event stop te zetten.
Met alle riders wordt individueel gesproken om tot een voor beide partijen bevredigende oplossing te komen. Achter de schermen wordt er eveneens gezocht naar een oplossing om het tij te keren. De VVV van Jamaica betreurt deze gang van zaken en zal alle riders die niet per direct naar huis kunnen de komende dagen entertainen met excursies en andere uitstapjes.
Het is natuurlijk de bedoeling dat we Jamaica met een goed gevoel zullen verlaten. Of dat lukt? Dat is zeer de vraag. We zijn hier uiteraard gekomen om de competitie aan te gaan en niet om als toerist rond te hangen.

Day three at Long Bay Beach and unfortunately due to the circumstances detailed below, the event in Jamaica has been cancelled.
This is a huge disappointment for the KPWT, its riders and all the media involved who have made the trip to the Caribbean.
The local organization was not equipped to handle an event of this stature and nothing was done as pre-scheduled.
Jamrock Tours (EUGENE SMITH), has shown utter disregard and commitment to the KPWT and its riders. KPWT had to make a decision fast as to safety and security for the riders and made the decision to leave Jamaica on account of poor delivery on what was originally on offer.
Nothing had been completed. No safety boats, no lycras, incomplete media offices, there was no permit on the beach, half finished judge towers, an accident on the event site involving a local worker, no buoys and unsettled accounts across the island with no money to speak of. This is a catastrophe and KPWT will not take the risk to even attempt to continue under these ridiculous conditions.
This is a sad day for the sport of kiteboarding, for Jamaica and for all those involved at the event.
Ik zag al van de week, dat de Jamaicaanse Kiteclub zich bij IKA heeft aangesloten. Zal 's informeren wat hier nou allemaal achterzit. De nutteloze stroom emails vanuit KPWT en IKF blijft in ieder geval onverminderd doorgaan. Wat een scam!
