Country and Location
Mauritius, officially the Republic of Mauritius, is an island nation off the coast of the African continent in the southwest Indian Ocean, about 900 kilometres east of Madagascar. In addition to the island of Mauritius, the Republic includes the islands of Cargados Carajos, Rodrigues and the Agalega Islands. Mauritius is part of the Mascarene Islands, with the French island of Réunion 200km to the southwest and the island of Rodrigues 570km to the northeast. click for larger version

Belle Mare is a small town in the Northeast of Mauritius. The kitespot is just north of this small town.

Climate
The local climate is tropical, modified by southeast trade winds; there is a warm, dry winter from May to November and a hot, wet, and humid summer from November to May. Anti-cyclones affect the country during May to September. Cyclones affect the country during November-April. The air temperature is between 22°C and 30°C. click for larger version

The beach
The white sandy beach is medium sized, but it is the longest beach of Mauritius. Look out for tourists on the beach and trees next to the beach. click for larger version


The water conditions
The crystal clear water is tropical warm, between 22°C and 26°C. It is shallow and therefore flat to choppy. On the reef you can enjoy some small to medium sized waves. But the reef can be sharp, so be careful. Watch out for swimmers, boats and other tourist attractions. click for larger version


The wind conditions
The best and windiest months are June-October. These trade winds mainly blow from the southeast with 15-25 knots. This direction is side-onshore. click for larger version


Facilities
Altough this beach is a populair beach there are almost no facilities. There is a school on the spot where you can rent gear. click for larger version

There are a lot of other beautifull spots along the east coast of Mauritius. Ask the school for downwinder possibilties.


Travel info
The nearets big city and airport is Port Louis. From there you can take a cab or hire a car and drive to the spot, it is a one hour drive. There is a possibility to park directly next to the beach. click for larger version
