Country and Location
Portugal, officially the Portuguese Republic, is a country located in southwestern Europe on the Iberian Peninsula. Portugal is the westernmost country of mainland Europe and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and south and by Spain to the north and east. The Atlantic archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira are also part of Portugal.
Tróia is a peninsula located in the municipality of Grândola (parish of Carvalhal), Portugal, next to the Sado River estuary. Tourism is the peninsula's main activity due to its long beaches facing the Atlantic. There is a ferry boat connection between the peninsula and the city of Setúbal. Tróia has important archeological sites dating from the time when the peninsula was an island called Alcalá, settled by the Romans.

Climate
The nearest big city is Lisboa. Lisbon has a Mediterranean climate that is strongly influenced by the Gulf Stream, giving it one of the mildest climates in Europe. The city is sunny throughout the year, with an annual average of 2900-3300 hours of sunshine. Summers are warm and dry with average daytime temperatures of 26–29°C, falling to 16–18°C at night. Winters are cool and rainy with temperatures around 8–15°C, while spring and fall are generally mild, or even warm during daytime. Extreme temperatures may reach 36°C in some of the warmest summer afternoons and 2°C in the coldest winter mornings. From May to September the weather tends to be settled most of the time with blues skies and some wind as well.

The beach
The huge sandy beach offers enough space for safe launch and land. There are no obstacles and the beach is not crowded.
The water conditions
The water temperature is between 15°C in the winter and 18°C in the summer. Near the river the water is clear and flat to choppy. Watch out for the current. Outside the bay you can hit some waves during the winter with southwesterly winds.
The wind conditions
The best months are during autumn to spring, from November-March. The best wind directions are South, southwest and west (very stable). The main direction is north (very gusty). During summer time the wind is thermal and the wind is almost every day 15 knots.
Facilities
There are toilets and showers on the spot. A school is teaching on Tróia. You can park you car right at the spot and even get something to eat.

Travel info
The nearest big city and airport is Lisbon/Lisboa. Troia/Setubal is the nearest town. It takes 30 minutes to get from Lisbon to Setubal. The ferry from Setubal to Troia takes 20 minutes.
