Hi

Bedankt!

If that did not make any sense whatsoever, here is the english version: ;)

Comming from the northern parts of South Africa, the coast was quite far, and we do not have the luxury of having great lakes all around, so even with my keen interest in kiteboarding/surfing, I had to stick to mountain biking and rock climbing (We have the luxury of mountains again :) )

I now find myself here in your country for a year or 3, and would love to get into kiteboarding. I however have no experience or knowledge of this sport, apart from reading some articles on the web, and watching other people work their magic. I am rather steady on waterski's, but I realise that it prolly wont help me much :)

Any advice (or link to other forum topics, as I know that this must have been asked over and over again, I just have trouble finding it with my limited dutch) would be MUCH appreciated.

I know with mtb-ing I liked downhill racing, dirt jumping and other freeride fun, but with kiteboarding, I dont even know what the various disciplines are, should there be any :)

From what I have gathered on the Net (And I will continue to read up on it) is that the bow kite seems to be the most popular option, and that I should rather start off with some second hand gear :)

A few questions I have:

1) What size kite, for a 70kg, 1.66m tall, or short according to dutch standards ;) person, to be used mostly around the southern part of Noord-Holland?

2) What type of board?

3) Is it possible to teach yourself, or is this not recommended? If not, any advice on good 'schools'?

4) Apart from kite and board, there is obviously otehr accessories required ;) What would the basic kiteboard kit consist of?

THANK YOU SO MUCH! 👍

Feel free to reply in dutch, I understand in perfectly, just find it hard to speak, let alone write :)

AnotherSA, Thank God, I was feeling a bit out-numbered.

Welcome.

I have plenty of good kites and boards for you to play with, all suitable for /- 70kgs. Mail me.

Self teaching will only get you in to trouble unless it's really quiet on the water, this is not so common, drop me a line if you want to go out and try, I also have a few guys that can hook you up on the lesson front.

Basic kite gear in Holland is: Kite, bar, pump, wetsuit, harness, board and most of all a bad motherfucker attitude towards the cold.
