For nearly a year now, the IKO offers insurance packages for its certified instructors and affiliated centers. Recently, the IKO signed a group contract insurance for Kiteboarders and snow kiters as well. It is the first international insurance that covers the rider for both accident and liability.

I believe this is very important information for the Kiteboarding Community. I have therefore prepared a doc (attached) with details on each different insurance packages. If you need more detailed info on each policy, I"d be glad to pass them on to you, but I think that this covers quite enough for the readers.

IKO works on improving kiteboarding and improving the safety of the sport, from the instructor, school manager and kiteboarder"s perspective. Having insurance for the kiteboarders make them realize their actual level and become conscious of what they can do or can"t do (the student standards help determine that).

Annual Price of the insurance (local taxes to be applied)

89 US / 68 Euros including USA/Canada
65 US / 49 Euros excluding USA/Canada

Insured risks:

Accident insurance

30.000 EUR for disability, 5.000 EUR for death, 6.000 EUR for salvage costs.

Kiteboarders are insured in accidents caused by kiteboarding: on water or snow (snow kiting not insured in the USA), at the beach and carrying the board/kite on direct way from car to the beach and back.

Personal Liability

EUR 1.000.000 lump sum for bodily injury and property damages. General Liability of the cardholder through the ownership, possession and use of private kiteboard and kites.
