Hi my name is jan, i am a 26 year old kitesurfer from germany. I always go to the netherlands to go kiting since 5 years know. ( wijk, andijk, ouddorp etc...) depends where the wind blows... Have you got any information about a kite crossing across the ijsselmeer?? Did anybody do it until know?! ( I knew that are a few guys crossing it with a windsurfer.., an of course the crossing england - nederlands , and i just missed the downwinder last week from hoek to schevenigen fu....) Next Projekt: Kiting along the hole dutch coast from ouddorp to den helder.... What do you think about it?! Best regards from cologne Jan

there are windsurfers who do that, i think its called REAL. Anyway, me and some kitebuddies crossed the waddensea last week.

But ijsselmeer is completely different.

Anyway, please make sure you're wearing safetyvests(floatation) and a waterproof mobile phone. Also it's a good thing to let the waterpolice and/or KNRM know that you're attempting to cross.

Ofcourse I don't ahve to tell you it's illegal to cross, and that you risk a fine in doing so.

Regarding your Downwinder project: consider to charter a safetyboat like a Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) to assist you in case of emergency and to assist you whenever the wind drops or when you are crossing the main shipping-lanes. It is an investment but if you get a team together and perhaps a sponsor it is making your project so much more safer and you can have the best pictures made too....

The DOLPHIN RIB's will be at the Brunotti/Natural High Downwinder in Ouddorp too!
