Hier ook nog een travel story van Youri;
Capetown, South Africa - by Youri Zoon
About 4 weeks ago I opened my email and got one from Brunotti, with the subject: Capetown. So I opened it and there it was , if I wanted to go to South Africa for a photo shoot for the Brunotti boards 2008! Of course I said yes and I asked my girlfriend to join me. The tickets where booked, the apartment was arranged and the car was hired. South Africa, here we come!
But… The Friday before the shoot I turned 18, the week before my brother turned 2, so we organised a party for our friends. So December 16 was the day for the big party, but the next morning I had to leave to the airport at 6 'o clock AM! The party turned out really nice and was a big success, but the next morning after 1,5 hours sleep we left to the airport. In the car I wasn't feeling that good. But the flight was good and I had a nice 11 hour en 20 minutes sleep. On the airport of Capetown a guy (Lucky) from the car rental was waiting for us.
In the plane I was reading the info that Simone Vellekoop from the apartment had send me (www.surfcapetown.net) but Lucky from the car rental was so nice brought us to the apartment. Thanks Lucky!
When we arrived Simone told me that Jinne and Caron where coming to see me. When I was watching prison break season 3 episode 3 the doorbell ringed and Jinne and Caron where there with Jan Boersma. After a drink and some talking we made the plan for the photo shoot.
Jinne, Caron and Jan left again and would call me if the wind was picking up, and when I just started episode 4 of Prison Break Jinne called me and told me the wind was there. So I went straight in front of the house and we decided that we were going to makea downwinder to Melkbos (sunset beach to Melkbos is 20 minutes by car). The downwinder was good! During the downwinder we meet with Kevin and Jalou Langeree, what was really nice because I didn't saw them for like 5 months!
After the downwinder we drove back and we decided to eat some sushi what I like here in Sunset beach. That evening I received a SMS from Caron: Tomorrow, 8.30 photo shoot at big bay! Okay, I will be there, so I put my alarm 7.45. So I woke up at 7.45 but I didn't realised that my phone was still on Dutch time! So I was having my breakfast and Caron called me: "can you find it?†She told me it was actually 9.45! So I said “Sorry sorry I am coming right away!" We jumped in the car and raced to big bay, when we where there I pumped my kite, and went on the water The wind was kind of light but later it pick up more and more and we had some good shots.
Around 4 I went back to big bag and it looked pretty windy, so I took my 7 but it was just not enough. I could do some tricks and had some fun because no one was on the water.
The next morning we did some surfing, but there was a lot of fog and suddenly it cleared up and voila there was wind! We drove to big bay and waited for the wind kicking in there as well. It was quiet alright for my 7 had some nice kiteloops, not too high but they were okay for the photo's. Later we had diner with Kevin and Jalou, always nice!
The next morning I woke up and received a SMS from Jalou. She told us to go surfing on a great spot. We went there with Kevin, Ralph, Jalou, Angela and me. It was fun but there were a lot of good guys and I am still learning, ha ha! Later we went home and I still wanted to try surfing, so I went in front of the house only the waves where way too small. But I had fun and could practise a bit.
This morning I was really lucky because Simone told me that I was flying today! Aaaah ( because I tought that we had to fligh back tomorrow)!
We did a quick shoot with Simone and had some nice pictures, no action pics but just lifestyle, and there going to be in the Kitesurfmagazine.
That evening we had a dinner with al the Brunotti people: Jinne, Caron, Finn, Graham, Esther and Petra and of course Angela. It was a really great trip. Thanks to all!
