Subject: Replacing worn bridle lines
In our efforts to be pro-active with our products we would like to offer some helpful tips. If you love to fly your Waroo’s as much as we do then we suggest that you keep an eye on the moving parts of the bridle. The area to take a closer look at over extended use is the lower front bridle section that the pulley travels on. It is well known in the industry that all kites using pulleys on the bridle lines are subject to wear. The amount of wear is determined by the amount of use and if the sheave should become restricted from a sand clog.
Basically the more you fly the kite, the more often visual inspections should be made. The pulley sheaves are prone to wear when sand particles are imbedded into the housing. The sheaves should be checked as part of your regular maintenance.
We have provided a “Quick Fix†for those whom wish to replace the front bridle section themselves. This method is only provided as a service. We do encourage you to order genuine Bestkiteboarding bridles as they become available.
“Take good care of your kite, like you do your loverâ€; and remember to protect and lubricate your pulley.
Yours cordially,
The Bestkiteboarding Development Team
Making your own Waroo bridle:
First of all you’ll need a few tools, like a knife to cut the spectra or kite line. A lighter to melt the lines and a tape measure.
Choice of material:
You can use either 500lb. rated Dyneema kite line or 3mm (1/8â€) spectra line. In order to have enough length for a bridle replacements study the chart first.
Once familiar with the chart the next thing to know is that you will be tying figure “8†knots, with that said each figure “8†knots requires approximately 5cm of additional length. This extra length needs to be added on to the entire length of the Fa bridle line when ordering.
For Example:
3m- Fa1= 94.8cm + Fa2 (n/a) + Fa3= 205.0cm + (4-knots) 20cm = 319.8cm Total Length
5m- Fa1= 65.9cm + Fa2 72.5cm + Fa3 249.0cm + (6-knots) 30cm = 417.4cm Total Length
7m- Fa1= 79.0cm + Fa2 89.9cm + Fa3 297.0cm + knots 30cm = 465.9cm Total Length
9m- Fa1= 88.3cm + Fa2 99.9cm + Fa3 331.0cm + knots 30cm = 519.2 Total Length
12m- Fa1= 98.1cm + Fa2 111.7cm + Fa3 378.0cm + knots 30cm = 617.8cm Total Length
14m- Fa1= 108.7cm + Fa2 127.0cm + Fa3 405.0cm + knots 30cm = 670.7cm Total Length
16m- Fa1= 118.9cm + Fa2 139.6cm + Fa3 478.0cm + knots 30cm = 736.5cm Total Length
20m- Fa1= 131.3cm + Fa2 167.5cm + Fa3 450.0cm + knots 30cm = 778.8cm Total Length
Tying the knots:
Make sure you have a secure point to measure, stretch and tie knots from. You’ll want to tie both the left and right bridles as you go along, this way the knots will match up and the kite will fly true. Follow the picture photos and always measure between the two knots.
Reinstalling the Front Bridle:
Start from the top of the LE and work your way down, installing the cross-sections Fb and Fc bridle lines. Slide the pulley w/pigtail on the lower Fa3 line and finish by attaching the bridle to the tow-point attachment. For any further assistance contact [email protected]
