Recently I’ve flown just about everything I could get my hands on, whether c-tube or bow, no matter what brand. I hope the reports are as objective as possible.
However, opinions of beginners and advanced kiters seem to differ. Many flight characteristics aren’t even important to most people as long as they feel safe and comfortable with their kite. Of course not everybody is interested in unhooked and kite loop performances. There’s no other way to explain the positive feedback for the switchblade. So I’ll try to satisfy the beginners as well by elucidating whether this kite feels safe or is easy to jump with.
The kites I’ve flown lately that were aiming for a similar wind range were: Switchblade, Answer 16 and Speed 13.
The Switchblade’s relaunch is better, but that’s about it. The SB is indirect and delayed and doesn’t even come close to the PsychoIII when it comes to jumping and unhooked performance.
Of all the mentioned kites, the Answer 16 definitely turns the most directly and the fastest, but it also starts the latest and isn’t comparable to the PsychoIII when it comes to pop, back stall and stability. In addition, it doesn’t jump nearly as high and is only fun when the Answer12 does it even more… So that’s a definite decision for the P3.
The battle between the Answer 12 and the Psycho3 8 will be exciting. The Answer 12 is best kite I’ve ever flown in that size. It will be interesting to see whether the P3 will replace it. One thing is certain: Size 13 as a smaller kite will be awesome!
One more thing: Finding out all the limits and weaknesses of a kite takes time, because you have to test all scenarios and possibilities and use it’s whole potential. So, ask me in a couple of weeks whether I discovered something new. But that will take a while, because this kite’s potential is enormous!
A Personal Evaluation
The Speed is still a wonderful kite for light winds, which is pleasant to fly and has great upwind abilities. And yet, the Psycho3 is so much more flexible, jumps much higher, is so much better unhooked etc…, It only gets second place of the named kites for the lower wind range.
Conclusion:
The PsychoIII is another mile-stone in Flysurfer-development.
This is a freestyle kite, that is great unhooked as well as hooked. The quality is highest standard, as usual.
This kite sets benchmarks in several fields: wind range, hang time and pop are gigantic. At the same time the kite is good-tempered and calm, so the less ambitious kiters will have fun as well.
The clean turns, the incredible turning speed and the practically non-existing back stall are creditable, too. As usual, the relaunch is ok, but not outstanding this time.
06 is an exciting year concerning material development. Flysurfer will be way on top with this kite, I’m sure of it. My conclusion: This kite will be a fast-seller!
