"It was with some real regrets that we left the bay at Douarnenez and our mates Ronan and Stan from Fun Evasion this morning, the time we spent in their company in this beautiful place was very much to mine and Stan’s liking.
Arriving a few hours later in the naval dockyards in Brest, we finally had a chance to ‘meet’ the beast that will be our home for a month next year when we make our TransAtlantic attempt, the famous Ocean Alchemist, Olivier de Kersauson’s enormous motorised trimaran.
This amazing boat, thirty metres long, looking like it was built for the last James Bond film and just launched there and then before our eyes, is moored at the end of a pontoon and we notice quickly just how much it draws attention from the sailors and tourists around Finistere.
In a few days it will escort us through the swell and general disorder of the Channel, and between now and then we’ll be getting to know her no less charismatic skipper, Admiral de Kersauson, who’s importance we can sense the length and breadth of this immense port at Brest. The tip of Brittany is filled with history and legend, perhaps we’re about to write our own little passage…"
