Anything before 2003 will not really be suitable,
Match the kite to your performance level,
If you are just starting don"t spend money until you have had some lessons,
New kites are wrapped up real tight in the factory, if it"s not wrapped tight don"t buy it,
Find out what the shops policy is on warranty, make sure you can return it ASAP if there is a problem.

Waterman - If the kite is not wrapped tight it may be a show model from the first production, not to say that the tightly wrapped one could not also be one, but you get idea right?
I know for a fact that there are normally some major production changes between production runs, so here"s another tip:
Look at the serial number on the kite/kitebag and buy the one that is higher eg. 102356645 instead of 102351008
