It's not about the performance of the rider, or the kite. It's about the safety the kite provides, and that comes with it's depower and safety system. The pro knows how to get in safety, the amateur doesn't have any experience.Compare it with a porsche from 1991 and a porsche from 2007. Sure the 2007 is a lot safer then the 1991. And that's what this is all about.
I tend to agree, but that also re-enforces my point. If you put a 5th line on a Rhino and have a bar that has better safety features then you have radically altered a kite that used to be an animal, it's now more refined and performs better to suit the rider. So, that means that the rider's level is the factor and not the kite, agreed?
I can see why tagging a kite with a level is done, it's much more a marketing thing than an engineering thing. You can take the worlds most powerful car with the worst handling and install a govenor that stops the cars from revving more than 1500rpm, thus making them safely driveable for a 65 year old lady.
So, in conclusion, we should rate the kites "Young Bastard / Middle-Aged Ripper / Grim-Reaper Cruiser" or just drop all the bullshit and call it a "safe kite/ not so safe / fucking dangerous kite".
