Aruba Hi-Winds is the oldest windsurfing event in the Caribbean. The first edition took place in June 1987 on initiative of local entrepreneurs Anthony Blok and Ruben Croes. This first event was so well organized that the Professional Boardsailing Association (PBA) decided to sanction the event and make it part of its 1988 World Tour. In the next few years the Aruba Hi-Winds developed into one of the top windsurfing events in the world. Former world champions Bjorn Dunkerbeck, Robby Naish and Anders Bringdal are examples of big names that came to our island during the event.
