Waroo bridles:

There has been some confusion about the design and the placement of the bridles on the Waroo in some of the discussion groups on the web. The bridle configuration on the Waroo is unique to BestKiteboarding and endows the Waroo with an unprecedented combination of performance and tuning options.

This update is intended to help customers better understand the differences between the Waroo and the other ‘bow based’ designs on the market, which should allow customers to make a better informed choice regarding their kite purchases.

The bridle design on the Waroo is significantly different to all other bridled leading edge designs currently on the market. It has some similarities with the ‘bow based’ designs but also significant differences as outlined below.
The Waroo bridle has a moving attachment point for the front bridles; the ‘bow based’ kites do not have this feature. This ‘auto-trim’ front line pulley arrangement shortens the depower distance required at the bar. Pulleys travelling forward and backwards along the leading edge bridle maximize the sheeting angle of the kite semi-automatically, according to bar position and in doing so maximise depower change for any given bar movement.

Other ‘bow based’ kite designs without this Auto-trim feature require a mechanical 2:1 bar travel system using pulleys at the bar, to halve the bar travel required to obtain any given depower, these kites suffer from increased bar pressure and heavy back lines as a result of using a mechanical 2:1 pulley system at the bar.

The earlier ‘bow based’ designs attempt to gain a percentage of the Waroo’s auto-trim by linking the front lines to the rear bridle, whilst partly working this also increases rear line pressure further on the ‘bow based’ designs. The Waroo bridle does not distribute front line pressure to the back lines and as a result has the lightest rear line and bar pressure of any flat kite on the market.

As the Waroo is a clean sheet design its performance is not limited by the constraints of the ‘bow design’. Due to its unique geometry the Waroo keeps the ‘movement’ of the center of lift, while changing the angle of attack, in a much smaller area than other designs. This is the main reason why the Waroo feels much closer to the C-shape kite and is more responsive and reactive.

Another additional feature in retaining more of the c-shape feel and friendliness is the short rear line v-bridle on the Waroo. This splits the rear line attachments between a mid-position and rear-most attachment point on the back of the curved leading edge. Adjustments made to the yoke of this short v-linked bridle transfers steering input between two points on what would normally be referred to as the trailing edge, this allows the user to adjust between a ‘tip-pivot’ and ‘tip-slide’ style of turning according to their taste.

This combination of performance, simplicity of bar design and tunability is not available on any of the other ‘bow based’ designs and is what sets the Waroo ahead of the competition for all riders who have tested it so far.
