Corona Extra Winter Tour - Geilo/Saturday - Day 6

Final triumphâ€¦

A new dayâ€¦
The riders and the organizers of the Corona Extra Winter Tour meet this morning at 10 am at the Lille Bla bar, for the last skippers meeting of the event and of the whole 2003 Tour. The next meeting is fixed at noon on the contests area situated on the top of the Geilos resort. When the crew arrives there, the situation is not the one they imagined: the snow is really hard and the wind is violent... Theres absolutly no way to run any contest at this place! The race director Damien Richard asks to all the riders to go down at the Lille Bla to discuss about the situation.
Finally the organizers decide to move the contest to Ortern, which is the great spot where we were last tuesday. The bus comes to pick up the riders at the bar at 1.30pm and the rounds are ready to be run at 3.30pm.
The wind blows up between 20 and 30 knots and the women are the first to try the area, as the sun shines... A new girl is competing today, shes a local skier called Kari Anne. After the seven racing minutes, Agnès Fontenay wins followed by Anna Levins (who rode really fast!), Estelle Lambelet and Kari Anne.

Skiers
At 3.45pm, the third skiers round begins. This is the last round of The Corona Extra Winter Tour 2003 so the riders are extremly motivated and offer a very impressive show, riding in such a strong wind (This is the windiest round ever run on the Winter Tour!). The level of the competitors is very high, they ride very fast, fly high and prove a great control in that kind of wind.
Its really hard for the judges to qualify or not the riders and the four guys who enter the final absolutly deserve it! Alex Peterson (US), Fabio Ingrosso (CH), Fabrice Tripier-Mondancin (F) and Christopher Dons (F/N) have got the power!!!
Peterson and Ingrosso put their kite together and cant finish the heat. Tripier-Mondancin offers a real crazy show of tricks just in front of the judges as Christopher Dons prefers to do fakie take off and fakie landings. Christopher Dons wins the round followed by Fabrice Tripier-Mondancin, Fabio Ingrosso and Alex Peterson.
It was possible to run a very last round with the best conditions for this last competing day. Sunday will be a freeriding day for everybody!
But before that, theres the prize giving and the last big party of this successful 2003 Corona Extra Winter Tour Saturday tonight at the Lille Bla bar...
