Slingshot board designer, John Doyle, has been busy in the board lab concocting a potion that was to be unreleased and unseen. It was John's little secret - a board so durable and so fun, that he could take it out on the water knowing that he had the one and only, and best, out there. It was a great plan. However, John's secret somehow escaped from the Doyle Board Lab

Next thing he knew, his board was under the feet of Slingshot team rider Jeff Tobias, who just happened to be in town testing kites. Tobias tried to help keep the secret, but broke down. "Dude I gotta have one of these."

Doyle shaped a board for Tobias. Then for Slingshot kite designer Tony Logosz. Tony shared it with the R&D team at Slingshot who then gave it to Marketing. Suddenly the board was like a disease that spread from one rider to the next, blowing away everyone in its' path. Word was out on the board. It was no longer his little secret

"This board has the strength and durability of our production boards, but doesn't fit into the same category. It's short and fast and somehow managed to get out of its' cage." Doyle's secret was then labeled the Misfit and his recipe for the board was released.

Doyle saw the Misfits as the board for those riders looking for high-performance custom-board feel but with production board durability and resilience. John designed the Misfit 119 and 122 with the best materials and construction, because initially of course, it was for himself.

He designed the board with a tapered sidewall construction, distributing the volume of the board from tip to tail, thus creating a soft, seamless ride. Other board manufacturers cut price and performance corners by adding their volume in the middle of the board, and not tapering the rail, thus weakening the balance and consistency of the board on the water.

John pre-stressed the laminate to control lateral flex and eliminate torsion. And he constructed them using the best custom-board resin money can buy, making the entire board UV resistant and extremely strong.

Short and wide, the Misfit Custom boards are great for the surf, jumps, and overall freestyle riding. Kids and gals will love it, and big kids and guys will want to adopt the Misfit as their high-wind board.

The Misfit 119 and 122 are custom-produced right here in the Gorge, allowing John and the team to speed up testing and R & D, thus answering quicker to your wants and needs in a board. The Misfit Series is a very limited run of boards. One batch for you to get your hands on and that's it. Available Summer 2003 only. Retail price: $719
