The 2004 Dewey Beach "FLY TO" RED BULL KING OF THE AIR QUALIFIER, went off!! Friday began with moderate 15 mph NW winds. Damien Leroy, Ruben Lenten, and Bri Chmel quickly made it clear that they were the ones to beat. Ruben Lenten, ranked 4th in the PKRA, kept Damien at bay sticking mobes, slims, kgbs and a heap load of other insane tricks. This 16 year old is a dynamo and is one to watch in the future. Damien put it together and showed why he is one of the most superior riders in the US, going trick for trick with Ruben. In the women’s event, rider Bri Chmel quickly showed why she has won nearly every contest she has entered this year. She blazed the flat water course sticking one technical move after another. Back rolls to revert with surface 180's, monkey 360 with a kite loop, and other insane moves were on her menu.

Day 2 put everyone on the ocean side with light 10-12 mph NE winds. A judged expression session quickly showed who was solid in the waves. Dewey Beaches own Mike Littlejohn quickly stood out as his local wave knowledge and board selection put him in the right places racking up the points. Morgan Skiperdene also showed her wave talent staying upwind and scoring a few solid bottom turns. Ruben Lenten kept everyone entertained with his insane riding and comical style. Christian Brouwer also scored some points with his aggressive riding. Damien Leroy kept it smooth and technical, and one step ahead. Bri Chmel had difficulty staying upwind, but still managed to put one technical move after another in the shore break. Vela Decker hung in and scored enough points to advance her to the finals. Evan Netch inspired the rest of the groms, as he once again advanced against the older more experienced competitors.

After the expression session, the rest of the heats went off. Mike Littlejohn won his second chance qualifier allowing him to go advance into the finals. Damien Leroy and Ruben Lenten went head to head for first. Rubens aggressive style quickly put of some points. Damien stuck to his game plan and unleashed one insane handlepass after another, and also threw in some board off and wave maneuvers to stay ahead. Bri fought head to head with Morgan and in the end her overall impression put her ahead. Special thanks to H2air Kiteboarding for a great event!
