Kitewatch review Brunotti kitewave 5.0 By Joriz and Jurjen (P+N department)
Hello Dudes, we have been using a brunotti kitewave for a while now and we thought you might want to hear our experiences with this wave specialist.
Specifications
First of all, we will donate you some facts of the board:
Produced to be a second affordable board, specially designed for waveridin"
Shaped by Jinne (Brunotti) but produced in a low wages country.
Length: 153 cm.
Width: 43.5 cm
It features three rather large fins in a thrusters setup.
Our experiences The fins and the width combination made us boosting upwind like a sputnik cosmonaut, but off course you are more interested in the downwind abilities of this fountain of sweetness. With those 3 fins you are sure to feel very secure with an amazing grippy feel, this make the largest waves fully comfortable. Although 3 large fins take quite some surface, it doesn"t seem to make you loose any of your speed. We think that"s because of the flat, but progressive rocker of the board.
This combination makes you slam through waves at high speed, but still at high precision and control. When we started our test session with this board we first felt a bit uncomfortable, because of the width, the relative length compared to our much shorter freestyle twintips and the directional style, so we took our firsts waves like Ramonus (slowly and careful -> a bit pathetic).
However after our first downwind trip we were hooked! The carves the board makes are so tight that a 14 year old girl would become jealous off it. The shape of the board is focused on dirty waves like the North sea, but even in the clean waves on Maui it must be feeling like you"re living in a dream. The board give such a comfortable feeling, that it makes you confidence to ride waves like you never did before! We bought the boards to use it next to our freestyle boards, but as we think that these boards are so sweet we use them more then our freestyle boards. So you can basically said that we use our freestyle boards as our secondary boards and our brunotti wave boards as our primary boards.
The lower price of the board doesn"t mean a lower quality, we used to ride our boards to the rocks, but except for some small scratches it still looks like new.
The board is ride able both strapped as unstrapped, we recommend for the north sea straps in most of the conditions but the pads cover a large area of the board and give good grip, maybe some sexwax to finish and of you go unstrapped. As we"re kinda rookies with directionals in waves we will keep it strapped for a while.
Negative points are the amount of wind we still needed, we expected a zero beaufort board, but you definitely do need some wind pressure. Another thing we noticed was that our front foot is hardly using the appointed strap, you surf this board like a surfboard, so a tow-in like strap setup would have been better (like North"s/Amundson"s custom). Final bad point is that we stay much longer on the water now, so less time for meat and beer.
Conclusion
The brunotti kitewave board is recommended for all kind of riders, especially those guys who want to bring wave riding to the next level, but also for the days that the wind is not so much presented the brunotti kitewave will give you the ability to ride when other guys are still playing with their harmonicas (which should be practiced once in a while too). Jinne did a good job shaping it (and our low wage chinese friends did a good job manufacturing it), so we would like to thank him for the enormous amounts of fun this sick board brought us.
