I wanted to share an incident that occured here in CT last weekend. Luckily it wasn´t too serious, but it should have been. My kite was in for repairs so I was shooting video this day, and I caught the whole thing on DV. (I sent a mov file to Toby) A guy insists on launching his (I believe it was a 9.0) North kite in 30+ kts. The assistant (not on video) was skeptical because the kite didn´t feel right, it was pulling upward too much. He held onto the tip even after getting the "thumbs up" from the rider and two other kiters. he also sent someone to hold the riders harness. The rider was shackled to the chicken loop. When he finally let go, the kite went straight through the powerzone pulling the bar instantly from the rider´s hands. The bar slid up the chicken loop with such force that when it reached the adjustment strap, the adjustment strap stitching blew completely apart as it literally pulled through the bar, causing the centerlines and the chicken loop to disconnect from the rider. The bar and kite flew off leaving the entire chicken loopand adjustment strap sitting there. As it turns out, the rider rigged the left side lines backward (front to back) This was a North system (not color coded) I´ve never seen that kind of strap failure, but I´ll bet it wouldn´t have happened if there wasn´t at least 400lbs holding on. I just can´t imagine what would have happened to the rider had it not failed, Lane
