Aaron's update
Today I had one heat in the freestyle, I came up against Kevin who had made his way back up the field. He also took Ruben down to 3rd place, I sort of feel bad for him after all the energy it took yesterday to get to the Singles Final. I know how much effort I put in and to have that taken away kind of sucked.
Rubens update
After some hectic days with a lot of wind we finally finished the double elimination!
I got second in the first elimination in some strong winds...Broke my kite, had the biggest wipe-out ever and further i had some ok moves.
Today they started the double elimination, the wind actually shut of a little bit...It was light and super gusty, didn't work for me!

Day reports
Day 2 - PKRA - Movistar Kitesurf Pro Tarifa 2007
Like an answered prayer, Day 2 of the Movistar Kitesurf Pro Tarifa 2007 at Valdevaqueros Beach was greeted by strong winds that would leave most people sitting on the beach. In the morning, the winds were a consistent 30 to 40 knots (7-8 bft) coming from the east but by the time the competition was over, the wind was well over 50 knots (10 bft) with gusts of over 60 knots
(11 bft).
Most of the riders were on their five- to six-meter kites and only two riders at a time were given time on the waters for safety and judging purposes.
Ruben Lenten (Slingshot, Netherlands) and Rui Meira (Naish, Portugal) were the first to test the winds going head to head in heat #9a. There would have been only one rider in the event who had his prayers answered with the strong winds, and that would have been Lenten, winning against Meira with more height and power in his moves, most notable of which is his unbelievable kiteloops. Level with his kite 10-meters up, Lenten glided in the landings and looped the kite one more time just to be sure he had speed to ride away. In the same heat, Alvaro Onieva (Best, Spain) and Julian Hosp (Carved, Austria) both struggled in the strong winds but eventually, Onieva won with more technical moves including a blind judge and hasselhoff.
Day 3 - PKRA - Movistar Kitesurf Pro Tarifa 2007
The Levante continued its full fury all throughout the night up to the third day of the Movistar Kitesurf Pro Tarifa 2007. Winds with sustained speed of 40 knots (8 bft) continued to hammer down Valdevaqueros beach which prompted the race director to postpone the competition until the conditions settled down in the afternoon as forecasted. Finally at around 3:30 pm, the men went to the waters to finish the single elimination and by the time the wind subsided to a mild roar, the day was concluded with the women’s single elimination which finished around 5:30 pm.
Heat #13a was to be the cancelled heat from yesterday, but in a show of good sportsmanship, Alvaro Onieva (Best, Spain) conceded to Ruben Lenten (Slingshot, Netherlands) given the same conditions as yesterday. In the second round of the same heat, local champ and North rider Cesar Portas was defeated by Danish Nick Jacobson (Slingshot) in an easy heat riding a 5-meter kite against Portas’ 7-meter kite in 40-knot winds. Jacobson landed big air tricks and downloops with grabs while Portas struggled with his larger kite and only managed a few smaller kite loops and jumps.
Day 4 - PKRA - Movistar Kitesurf Pro Tarifa 2007
After two days of onslaught, the wind finally dropped down to an ideal condition of 30 to 35 knots during the day and dropped down further to 15 - 20 knots in the evening. The Movistar Kitesurf Pro Tarifa 2007 went underway at exactly 10:30 am and right on schedule, finishing the doubles and best trick around 6:45 in the evening with an awarding ceremony at 7:30 pm.
The day kicked off with the men’s double elimination, most notable in the first round were the battles between two British kitesurfers, Sam Light and Robin Snuggs. Light took the lights out of Snuggs to get a chance at the prize money. In the same heat, Michael Schitzhofer (Naish, Austria) defeated Austrian Oliver Panny (Best) while Mikael Blomvall (JN-Kites, Sweden) took out local favorite Alex Pastor (Naish) with some powered riding in the 22nd heat. Blomvall landed a blind judge 3, a big back mobe and a double s-bend to blind and kiteloop handle pass to beat Pastor who had a variety of lower technical moves with the only stand out was a front mobe to blind with the kite high. Also in the same heat, Alberto Rondina (Cabrinha, Italy) beat Rocky Chatwell (Crazyfly, US) who could barely manage to stay in the box.
Rondina stomped a 313, slim chance and regular and switch blind judge to take the win. Meanwhile, Julian “Hospinator†Hosp (Curved, Austria) took out Magic Maciek Kozerski (Naish, Poland) with a sent front mobe and blind judge over a blind judge and sent handle pass unleashed by Kozerski.
Day 5 - PKRA - Movistar Kitesurf Pro Tarifa 2007
The opening of the fifth and final day of the Movistar Kitesurf Pro Tarifa
2007 in Valdevaqueros, Tarifa, Spain sponsored by Movistar and Nokia was a complete contrast to the past three days. Today was practically a no-wind day and the conditions did not permit a second round Big Air / Best Trick contest which went into a series of postponement until the race organizers finally cancelled the event at 4pm. The final awards ceremony was held on the beach in front of a packed crowd
