WA: Kite surfer dies after being swept onto power lines

By Selina Day
PERTH, Sept 3 AAP - A 47-year-old kite surfer has died after a gust of wind swept him into a parked car and on to power lines on Perth's southern fringe.
Emergency crews rescued the man from the power lines but he died at Rockingham hospital of multiple injuries, police said.
The accident happened as the man stood on a grassed area alongside Cockburn Sound at Rockingham after attaching himself to the kite, they said.
As he prepared to enter the water to engage in the popula pastime a wind gust pushed him into the car and up into the power lines.
Kite surfing, classed as an extreme sport, is where parachute-like "kites" propel a person on a board along the water.
The participant wears a harness, which is hooked into a cross
bar with lines connected to the kite.
The weather bureau had issued a strong wind warning for the area today - conditions which the Australian Kite Surfing Association advises participants to avoid.
