youri heeft een mooi interview gegeven voor windfinder ook zit er nog een filmpje bij van hem.
For how long have you been kiteboarding?
For 4 1/2 years.
How often do you practise and how long are your sessions?
I practise about 3-4 times a week (when not injured) and my sessions usually last 2-3 hours.
How do you approach/learn new tricks/moves?
Luckily I learn new tricks quickly compared to many others. Usually when I see a trick on a video or someone on the water doing a trick I simply try it until it works. But I don't really visualize it or do any other fancy stuff to get it right. Just a lot of practise and many crashes!
What about your injury?
I had a surgery on my knee last summer. The recovery went really well so after 4 months I was on the water and did a "Youri Zoon is back" video. My girl-friend Angela Peral and I went to Cumbuco/Brazil, Cape Town/South Africa and Tarifa/Spain for training. At the first tour stop of the PKRA Kitesurf World tour in Mexico I finished 4th with a torn ligament (which got torn in Tarifa). I was really happy with my result but had to do another surgery. So in March I had a surgery where the doctors put in a new ligament (!?). The surgery was a great success but my recovery will last another 1-2 months from now before I can kitesurf again. I visited some tour stops this year and did a bit of wave surfing on my own.
Isn't it frustrating to see all the other guys competing and ripping on the water?
Yes, but It's a mental thing. When you have such a severe injury you have to learn to become mentally strong. But I will come back on the PKRA World Tour next year
