General Info:
The location and the Village

Nyali is a district found to the north of Mombasa and is a reasonably affluent area where hotels, villas, a golf complex and tourist related ventures could be found. Mombasa is the second largest city in Kenya, lying on the Indian Ocean. It has a major port and an international airport. The city is the centre of the coastal tourism industry. click for larger version

The seasons and Hotel info

The best and windiest months in this part of Kenya are season dependent. From mid-December to mid-March the Kaskazi monsoon blows and from the beginning of june to mid-September the Kuzi monsoon blows.

In nyali you will find all kind of accomodation, from rental houses and wooden appartments to luxurary hotels. An avarage hotel will cost you KES 3130-4700 (1euro = KES103).

Climate
The nayali district has a warm, tropical climate. The amount of rainfall depends essentially on season. The rainiest months are April and May, while in January to February the rainfall is minimal. click for larger version

The beach

The beach is large, wide and generally uncrowded, except on Sundays when it can get quite busy. The beach is from white powder sand. click for larger version
The water conditions


The reef that lies 1km offshore creates a shallow lagoon inside and produces nice waves. The avarage water temperature is all year around 27C and is beautifull turquoise. click for larger version


The depth on launching at the beach at a neap tide is approximately less than 1 meter and gets progressively deeper, where at about 500 meters from the shore the depth is about 3–4 meters. It then gets shallow again and at approx 750 meters from the shore is back up to about 2–1 meters, depending on the tides.


The wind conditions


The wind on Nyali beach is always sideshore or side-onshore. There are two different wind seasons:

The Kaskazi monsoon
The wind blows from the north-east and is between 15-30 knots. This wind season is from mid-December to Mid-March.

The Kuzi monsoon
This wind blows from the south-east and is between 20-35 knots. This wind season is from the beginning of June to mid-September. click for larger version
