Non-existent wind for the first day of competition
Today marks the first day of competition here in El Medano beach, Tenerife, Spain.
Unfortunately there was no wind, but it made for the perfect day for vacationers, riders and crew to explore the little fishing community here in El Medano.
Many riders prepared their kiteboarding gear in hopes of a change in the wind forecast. Spanish rider Gisela Pulido (Airsuh, ESP) as well as other riders jumped into the Red Bull simulated racing car to test there driving skills. After many crashes, some were successful and managed to speed their way across the finish line.
The 2002 PKRA world freestyle champion Mark Shinn (Shinn, GBR) is a registered wave competitor here in Tenerife. It’s really exciting to have a legend back on the tour supporting the PKRA. Another PKRA legend 2 x PKRA world freestyle champion in 2001 and 2003 and 2007 PKRA wave champion, Martin Vari (Vari Kites, ARG) is also a confirmed registered competitor for the PKRA racing event, which will be held in Bariloche, Argentina. Legends are made every year from the PKRA.
The tour is expanding year after year and will continue to provide a reputable reputation in the years to come.
The wind forecast for tomorrow looks hopeful. The mandatory riders’ meeting is scheduled for 10:30am tomorrow morning. Race director, Erik Troostheide will set the stage for a spectacular freestyle show.
