Shown here is the next installment from the Naish Future Series: a patent pending, double-surfaced, wing-sail with inflatable struts. The high-performance speed sail designed by sail designer Dan Kaseler utilizes computer modeled, torpedo-shaped inflatable tubes for skeletal structure and to maintain the proper separation between the windward and leeward skins. Because they are inflatable, these struts impart several advantages including buoyancy in water, an ultra light structure, and unsurpassed compressibility for packing the wing-sail away when not in use. Incidentally there are no traditional hard battens in the sail. The inflatable tubes create a twisting breathing rig very similar in feel to a modern sail, but with an extremely low drag 3D foil shape. The carefully designed shape of this experimental speed sail acts to minimize drag and provides amazing top-end stability and incredible performance!
