KPWT 2003 - Cap d’Agde/Tuesday - Day 1 The 2003 kiteboard World Cup starts under the sun of Agde, France!!! | |
Opening ceremony… The opening ceremony for the first stop of the 2003 Tour took place last night at the Casino of Cap d'Agde. In attendance were Gilles D’Ettore, the Mayor of Agde and Anna Spasov, President of the SODEAL, along with many other City officials and VIP guests of the Tourism Office. Large crowds gathered today, eager to watch an amazing show on the beautiful sunny beach Richelieu!!! In the morning, winds were blowing 25 knots, side-off from the right (N-NW) and everyone was gearing up for the beginning of the Single Freestyle competition. With unstable conditions, the Race Direction decided however to play it safe and wait for the wind to turn side-shore rather than start the event in off-shore conditions. The skipper meeting was started at 11am and the first heats followed suit. | ![]() |
![]() | Let’s go! Things went quite smoothly in the first round for the Top seeds, except for Sky Solbach (USA) who will have to restart from the beginning in the Losers bracket. All the other favourites advanced to the next round, including Jérémie Eloy, a new talented rider from Dunkerque (FR) who, after spending 6 months in the Gorge, USA, left a strong impression with the variety of his tricks. Advancing into the Men’s 1/4 finals were: Shinn, Miller, Cinalo and Bouré then Hadlow, Jaujou, Miller and Lhote, then Julien Sudrat, Lago, Rubesh and Eloy and finally Romain, Mariani, Fernandez and Deleau. As the Men’s first round was completed, the Women’s Single Elimination was about to be launched, at which point the winds unfortunately turned off-shore again. For safety reasons, the competition was stopped by the Race Director at 5pm. |
