Kitesurf is a sport which can easily turn from a passion to a veritable human adventure…
Pete Goss (yes indeed, the celebrated yachtsman !) and Alan Chambers, two Brits currently in final preparations for the 2003 Scott’s Challenge starting in November, are living proof of that principle. The idea is to follow the route taken by Captain Scott on his ill-fated polar attempt in 1911, aiming for the South Pole and hoping to avoid Scott’s dismal end, the whole team perishing on their return journey. 92 years later, Goss and Chambers will be re-tracing that route on foot and on ski, with the help of some kitesurf kites, sponsored by no less than Ozone Kites for this element of their expedition!
Worth noting also that this attempt will be aiming to raise funds for the Hope HIV charity which helps African children orphaned by the loss of their parents to the killer virus AIDS. After 3 weeks intensive training in Greenland they’re really just waiting for departure day to come…
