3Snowkite World Championship

"Snowkiting" is the name of a new type of trend sport with a special kick - not only for freaks. Since skiing and snowboarding have long become popular sports enjoyed by the masses, for adrenalin junkies it has become high time to broaden their spectrum of possible winter sport activities, to enjoy powder in a special way, to jump higher and wider and to conquer mountains not only downwards but also upwards. More and more snow fans equipped with skies or snowboards and kites glide above snow-covered meadows and breath mountain air when jumping high.

Snowkiting is not only a pleasure for active sportspeople – this action-packed sport also attracts spectators that normally prefer sports activities in front of their TV set: Regularly, winter sports fans from all over the world travel to Austria in order to participate in or watch the country’s famous winter sports events, but in February 2005 a special mega event will take place – unique in Austria. Thousands of winter sports aficionados will come together in Obertaunern/Salzburg, where the snowkite elite will gather to crown their world champion.

At the 3Snowkite World Championship, which will take place from 14-20 February 2005, the national snowkite elite, such as Hardy Brandstötter (who set the word record in the “speed” discipline) and Alex Schwab (the acting world champion in the "race" discipline) will appear in Obertauern/Salzburg. Additionally, the international pros will be there, such as Fabio Ingrosso from Switzerland, the freestyle world champion in ski snowkiting and Gillaume Chastagnol, the winner of the 2004 Freestyle Winter Tour. They all will come to Obertauern in order to impress the audience with unique shows of air acrobatics, high speed, and lots of style.
