The damage to the kite occurs when 5th line is used as "safety only", so when the kiter is locked to the kite permanently with 5th line, with no possibility to release the 5th line.
On our bar setup, we use 5th line as relaunching system and as a 2° level safety.
To have the 5th as relaunch help will benefit all riders, like me, that want the kite immediately/ a.s.a.p into the air, without swimming and without taking the board off for relaunching; Furthermore in waves, the system can help to relaunch more easy and with less kite damage possibility, due by the wave hitting the kite.
To have a 2° level safety will help if wind goes up, storm/squal arrives or simply something unexpected happens : just pull the handle and the kite will depower immediately, losing all forces.
For that, we don't need the 5th directly connected to the kiter but only at the trimstrap with an handle with a safety release : if the kite wraps around, just release the pin, the 5th loses the traction and kite is saved.
