It seems that Mat Pendle used a few brain cells to create the GK 5th line setup. Nothing really fancy, just simple, clever and efficient.
Few problems traditionally with 5th line setups, at least when they are not made from the factory (or when you want shorter lines on a factory setup). Usually it is a pain to properly tune the stopper ball that will define how your kite behaves when released on the 5th line. Usually, you need to have two people around, do it in light winds, etc... It depends as well on how hard you pumped your kite, sometimes on how much it is depowered, because the requirement for these setup is to have the perfect balance between the tension on your 5th line and the tensions on the other flying lines. GK came with their TBS tri briddle system that lets you tune the way your kite will fly when released, just a couple of meters from the kite from the center line only, not from the bar, that means, you can do it yourself alone in any wind. Once this is properly tuned, (It comes pretuned from factory, though), you could almost get rid of a stopper ball on the 5th line, because it wouldn't be used to maintain the kite position. You just use a stopper ball so that your bar won't go all the way up to the kite when you let it go, but the stopper ball location is not that critical (assuming it is still far enough to let the kite fully open, obviously).
It seems also that this TBS would prevent the 5th line to go around the kite, and cut the trailing edge as this has been related to happen with 5th line, because in this case it would be held by the extra bridles on the LE. But this is pure guess, and only time will tell.
