Forty-six men and twelve women representing twenty three countries poured into Sardinia Island, Italy for event number seven of the PKRA World Tour, The Kitesurfing World Cup Sardinia.

Last nights opening ceremony hosted by Mirco Babini was truly awesome with the all the riders on stage dancing and even some break dancing by yours truly, PKRA Media Director Chris Tronolone.

Today PKRA riders battled against themselves and a dozen Italian riders in pursuit of the podium. The light wind conditions did not stop the competitors from putting on a great show for the hundreds of spectators who lined the shores of beautiful Vignola Beach. The prize at steak a thirty six thousand dollars cash purse.

The day got of to a slow start with a riders meeting at nine thirty in the morning. The conditions slowly improved throughout the day until 1:40 PM when PKRA race director Olaf Van Tol started the trials.

Riders Mirco Scalpelli (Wipika), Renzo Mancini (Wipika) Giampaolo De Carolis (Slingshot), Alberto Rondina (Cabrinha) and Max Dicicco (Free Agent) advanced through the trials in a strong showing for the Italians on their home turf.
Also advancing from the trials was Eli Zarca (Israel, Wipika), Randy Hereman (Netherlands), Youri Zoon (Netherlands, Slingshot), Rui Meira (Portugal, Naish), Mallory De La Villemarque (France, North), Sander Lenten (Netherlands, Flexifoil), Guilly Brandao (Brazil, RRD) and Stephan Van Den Berg (Netherlands, RRD).

After eight heats of the trials and the conditions continued to be acceptable and the main event started. Netherlander Ruben Lenten (Slingshot) move forward in a close heat agaisnt KPWT Champion Mickael Fernandez (France, RRD) with an arsenal of slim chances, a KGB and other handle pass moves. Ettiene Lhote (France, F-ONE) took out DeCarolis (Italy, Slingshot). Eli Zarka (Israel, Wipika) advanced against Roy Zoon (Netherlands). Italian Renzo Mancini (Wipika) defeated Dutch Mads Bloch (RRD). Netherlander Kevin Langaree (Naish) bested Italian Max Di Cocco. Italian Alberto Rondina (Cabrinha) beat South African Greg Thijsse (Cabrinha). French Sebastien Garat (RRD) overwhelmed Netherlander Randy Hereman. Tahitian Tuterai Montaron (Liquid Force) crushed Italian Mirko Scalpelli (Slingshot). Spaniard Alvero Onieva (Wipika) hammered Frenchman De la Villemarque (North).

In women’s PKRA World Cup Kiteboarding action Netherlander Katja Roose (Airush) defeated French Aurelia Herpin (JN Kites). Netherlander Jalou Langaree (Naish) trounced Italian Olivia Bruschettini. After 2 heats of the women’s divisions and 5 heats of the men’s division the conditions dropped below the PKRA standards so Olaf Van Tol abandoned heat six. Just after the heat was abandoned Cesar Portas challenged Rui Meira with his patented slim chance to blind, perhaps a hint of the intense action to come in tomorrows competition.

Riders meeting will be at 10:AM tomorrow with a first possible start at 10:30 AM.
