The unhooked Kite loop told by Kristin Boese !
Kristin Boese is the leader from the PKRA tour. This German champion is pro rider and talented at the same time. She esplains for Flysurf.com the unhooked kite loop.
The unhooked Kite loop is easier to approach with a 12 or a 16 meters. Before you think of learning it, it is important you control the hooked in Kiteloops and unhooked jumps. For your 1st trials, you must be slightly underpowered.
Then, you’ll want to be well powered to get enough pop, height in addition to this great feeling of getting pulled by your kite downwind in full speed !
In order to prepare you kiteloop, you must bring your kite at 11.00-12.00, slowly, while you slightly ride downwind. Put your right hand to the very far extremity of your bar to make the steering easier. This will be useful to initiate the rotation of the kite backwards.
From then on, things go pretty fast. You unhook your kite as soon as the kite is almost above your head. You put your left hand on the other side of the bar (next to the other hand already holding the bar on its extremity). Both your hands are now on the right hand side of the bar if you have started with your right hand. At this very moment, you push your kite (on the right then) so that it initiates the kiteloop, starting at zenith. At the very first push on the bar, you’ll feel the traction of the kite that will start looping. You must then, at the beginning of the traction, edge just like for a standard railey. You cut a little bit upwind and only let go off edging when you cannot hold the traction of the kite anymore it anymore.
Contrarily to a standard railey, you will feel the kite pulling you not into the direction you have been riding but backwards, simply follow the kite and don’t try to work against it . You’ll also get much more pop and height than in a railey thank to the loop.
Keep an eye on the kite and you will see it looping, feel the pull and enjoy the power of your kite!
As soon as the kite finished it’s rotation you will come down again. In preparation of the landing you want to bring your board back under your body with bending your legs and pull them all the way forward again. You also bring your board in a downwind position so you can ride away with the kite still pulling you a bit. Pay attention to bring the bar close to your body. In this way, it will be easier to control the landing. Bend your knees a lot when you land to keep control in the speed-landing. Following the downwind pulling kite, your hands move to come back to the normal position as soon as possible. You want to have the right hand on the right side and the left hand of the left side of the bar again, but both hands are more in the middle of the bar. In this way, you can now keep control over the kite and get back hooked in. So?? Now just ride away as nothing happened and try your next one! If you have difficulties doing Kiteloops this way, just try the progression on the other side. Maybe it will be your best side? Have fun and don’t crash too hard!
