The Garden Route is situated in the Western Cape Province of South Africa and has a Mediterranean climate, with hot summers, and mild to chilly winters. This area does not have a specific windy season, and you can consider yourself lucky when the wind blows while visiting this breathtaking destination. South-Westerly winds are generally the most popular due to them coming direct off the ocean. This area is lush with greenery and comfortably nestled in the shadows of the majestic Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains. It has one of the richest rainfall areas of Southern Africa, most of which occurs during the winter months, brought in by the warm Indian ocean. Any time of the year is good for visiting the area, depending if you enjoy a peaceful retreat during the winter months, or excitement of a bustling holiday during the summer.
When travelling through the Garden Route, one cannot escape the strong feelings of belonging and for the need to return to the stunning beaches and the relaxed lifestyle you come to experience.
I chose to fly with Kulula.com from Cape Town to George, and did a return trip via a hired car to as far as Plettenberg Bay. Be sure to know that the SupaCrew on Kulula.com always manage to make you smile. I rented a little car from them with aircon, which is a must have in this southern tip of Africa destination.
My first night I stayed in the Far Hills Country Hotel just outside George. George is the sixth oldest town in South Africa. The town is very centrally situated: halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth and centre of the Garden Route - ideal from where to explore the area"s many variant and diverse scenic wonders.
Dude, the garden route has surfspots that are some of the best in the world.
I spent 3 years wave surfing up and down the coast when I live in Plettenberg Bay.
If kiting had been invented back in those days I would never have left!
Tuurlijk heeft o.a.
Speed next year you going to teach me how to surf real waves at your place in SA and if there"s wind all hell breaks loose O myn god gert, hier komt kak en ik ken kak als ik kak zien!
i"m so stoked to see those pictures and read them stories.
You bet!
Durban on a windless day after 3 days of SE storms, you won"t even wnat to get in the water, the waves are fucking apartment blocks!
