Sebastian is almost 19 years old and lives near Flensburg/Germany where he is currently studying for his high-school diploma. He earned himself the title of German Champion 2006 in St.Peter-Ording in the end of august. In this interview he tells us everything we want to know.
KST: What does it feel like to be German Champion 2006?
SB: Awesome, It feels good to be rewarded after training for so long. It was the best feeling to be named first place after 2 long hours of suspenseful waiting.

KST: Did you think you’d win against Mario?
SB: I had a good day, but I think that we both really kicked ass. Everything was possible until the end. After the Heat I wasn’t sure which one of us had made it.
KST: Did you celebrate your victory?
SB: Hmmm…In the Luna Club in Kiel I got a lanyard for the KLC Video Premiere. A great place, by the way!! I’d say Sabrina, Rick and I partied pretty hard there

KST: How did you prepare for the season?
SB: I was in Tarifa twice at the beginning of the season for photo shoots and training. Then I had a shoot on Mauritius and was at the PKRA on Fuerte Ventura afterwards. So I’m pretty busy next to studying for my diploma.

KST: Last year you were considered party animal 2005. This year you’ve settled down. Why?
SB: I hardly think I’ve settled down…I’ve just shifted it all a little and go about it more rationally. This time the wind forecast was checked before the evening, even though that didn’t really help on Sylt…
KST: In not even a year you’ll have your diploma. What are you going to do then?
SB: Kite, kite, kite… Travel a lot and participate in a lot of contests.
KST: Being a “softkite†rider, are you happy to have won against tubes?
SB: I’ve been riding bridled ramair kites for 4 years now. However, I don’t see myself as a competitor of tube kites. Even if Mario had been using soft kite and I had been using tubes, it wouldn’t have made much of a difference. It was more about Mario as a rival than a tube kiter. Soft kites have come such a long way that it is no longer relevant.

KST: What did your sponsors say to your title? Have you gotten any new offers?
SB: Of course they were all very happy. I haven’t received any new offers, though. Probably because the others know that I’ve worked perfectly with my sponsors for four years now, am extremely content with the products I use and because of that haven’t found a reason to switch yet.
KST: What are your goals for 2007?
SB: Keeping my championship title, graduate with a good grade and kite like crazy after that.

The kite surf trophy team wishes Sebastian further success and is looking forward to next year’s championship.
