During the month of October a kitesurfing competition took place in Port Elizabeth. It started off with an Opening Bash at THE LENNOX.
The National Kite Surfing championships kicked off on Kings Beach P.E the Saturday with the windy city not living up to it’s name of being the windy city. The guys in Port Elizabeth did however live up to their name when it comes to PE being also known as the 'friendly city'.
A complete absence of wind resulted in no competing this weekend but the beautiful weather allowed for lots of fun in the sun. Registration took place in the morning with a good turnout of competitors, who really enjoyed the music, food and Frisbee games. PE residents who spent the day at the beach on Saturday would have got a good view of the vibrant colourful kites laid out on the sand ready and waiting to take to the water. Sunday was a similar situation at Sardinia Bay, with the exception that a few small training kites were able to fly with the slight breeze that came up in the afternoon. The day’s event was officially called off at 3pm and as the last of the gazeboes, flags etc were being packed in to the cars the wind came through perfectly – typical!
