REAL Kiteboarding’s Enily Vater featured in Outside’s Go Magazine !

REAL Lesson Center Manager and REAL/Best/Jimmy Lewis Team Rider Enily Vater is featured in the premiere issue of Outside’s Go Magazine. Look for this issue on newsstands now !

In an article titled “Learning Curves” by Kent Black, Enily ranks among the world’s elite female sports coaches and guides. Top women featured in “Learning Curves” are surfers Carly Rogers and Katie Coryell, skier Kasha Rigby, Olympic sailor Carrie Howe and kiteboarder Enily Vater.

Enily says of her experience on the magazine photoshoot in Malibu, CA:

“For someone who does not wear a dress often, I was a bit scared, but then I met the other girls and realized that they were just like me. I was in my element! All in all, it was a wonderful experience, not just because they put me in a REAL red dress, did my hair, put a bit of make-up on and Robert Maxwell took my picture… but because I got to meet and hang out with some great people. It is empowering to meet other women who are as passionate about their sport as you are about yours. Somehow I think we were meant to meet. It is a blessing to hang out with other active women, who kick ass and look great doing it !!”

Enily is the REAL Lesson Center Manager as well as a Team Rider for REAL, Best and Jimmy Lewis. Enily’s friendly smile and contagious laugh are often the first thing you see or hear as you enter REAL in Waves. Enily is also an active coach on the REAL “power roster” this year which boasts over 20 full time coaches for the 2007 season. Enily coaches both men and women and was one of the founding women coaches behind the REAL Riding Girls Camp , an all-women’s kiteboarding camp series which was completely sold out during the 2006 season. REAL Riding Girls has returned in 2007 with more camp dates and again is filling up quickly !

Enily originally hails from San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she met REAL Head Coach Colin Gowland. Enily and Colin were later married on Shacks Beach, a popular kiteboarding spot on the NW coast of Puerto Rico. They now live, work and ride in Waves, North Carolina with their happy (and popular) dog Bule. Even Bule is into kiteboarding, appearing in the Triple-S action DVD in several segments !

Enily’s favorite kiteboarding location is The Slick in Cape Hatteras, NC. Every day before, in between or after work, you can see Enily taking sessions there. The Slick was actually the inspiration for her to learn to ride upwind. Enily wanted to ride The Slick so badly, and wanted to spend the maximum amount of time in the butter smooth water, that she devoted herself to acquiring the upwind skill quickly to get to The Slick from REAL. Now Enily can be seen taking “The Lane” at The Slick in winds upwards of 35mph on her Best Waroos with sizes down to 3m !!
