After 7 days without wind, an unusual weather for the spot of Santa Cruz, the local organisation Ocean Spirit and the governing body of the KPWT commonly decided according to the rule book to postpone the event till Tuesday, the 29th of July.
With all the efforts put into the set up and running of the KPWT Ocean Spirit Santa Cruz Wave Masters 2008, if there is one little chance to catch a couple of hours of wind (this is actually what is predicted by the weather forecast), everybody, including the riders, want to demonstrate the beauty of their sport.
It would really be a lack of luck to stay without wind for more than 10 days. Santa Cruz has built up its reputation with waves and wind. Summer time has always been the best season for kitesurfing but unfortunately it looks as if the Nature is going upside down...
Let’s keep fingers cross for the days coming and hope that the wind will listen to our prays !
Skippers meeting tomorrow at 10am !
Thanks god, all the efforts of the local organization Ocean Spirit and of the KPWT have been rewarded today with excellent wind and waves conditions from 5 pm onwards.
The organizers definitely made the right decision to extend the event for 2 days. The weather forecast is looking even better for tomorrow. The wind is supposed to blow the whole day long and also early in the morning. It could be the opportunity to run a second chance bracket.
As we are writing this press release, the competition is going on with the first round of men. The women have reached the semi-finals. The 2 girls who stood out are Kristin Boese and Kirsty Jones.
Jose Luengo, the 2007 KPWT Wave Champion performed a very good show as well as Jesse Richman, the Hawaïan kid , Mitu Montiero from Cabo Verde Islands, Carlos Pombo spain, Abel lago, Nuno Gomes and Jan Marcos Riveras from the Dominican Republic.
The aim of the race Direction is to complete the first round of men today and to start tomorrow at 7am with the 2nd round straight away.
The second day of extension will be very long but hopefully we will have results and the KPWT Santa Cruz Ocean Spirit Wave Masters 2008 will get the success it deserves.
