KPWT - Brazilie - Cumbuco
Cumbuco, Brazilie de plek om in het naseizoen te kiten. Kilometers strand, golven, kleine vlakwater lagune's en mooie golven dit alles met een altijd aanwezige wind maken Cumbuco de plek om wedstrijden te houden.
Het een na laatste KPWT event van het jaar, Noumeau is geschrapt en hierna is er alleen in oktober nog een stop in Marokko, maar het belooft wel een van de beste events van het jaar te worden. Met al meer dan 80 deelnemers waaronder in ieder geval 3 Belgische riders die gaan strijden in 5 categorieen voor een prijzenpot van meer dan 25.000 Euries.

The Freestyle competition of the Superkite Brasil 2008 has been completed today. The final results confirmed the riders’ performances of the first round. The two riders who really took advantage of their second chance are Ariel Corniel from the Dominican Republic and Kristin Boese from Germany.
Ariel Corniel was stopped in the semi-final by Jesse Richman and Kristin Boese even managed to reach the final but left the first place to the French Challenger, Pauline Boussard. The show on the water right in front of the Golfinho Hotel was a pure pleasure for the public. The conditions were perfect.
Ideal spot for an unbelievable competition.

For the Course Racing, we already run two races. Same scenario and very similar results in the two races. The Richman brothers, Jesse and Shawn, are confirming their expertise in this discipline as well as Kristin Boese and Ania Grzelinska. The four of them are taking the lead of the Course racing competition. Let’s see if they will keep the first places. Final results tomorrow.
The programme of tomorrow is once again very busy. Skippers meeting at 9am. Course racing followed by a Kiteloop session and a Big Air. It looks as if the last day of the Superkite Brasil 2008 will be the ultimate show of the KPWT Brazilian stage!

The Superkite Brasil Wave Masters 2008 have been completed today. The show started at 8am with the women competition. First riders in the water: Kirsty Jones and Ainhoa Garcia. Followed by Kristin Boese and Kari Schibevaag. 4 different European countries in the fight ! Ainhoa Garcia, handicapped with a knee injury, did her best but only managed to reach the 4th place. Kristin Boese, 2007 KPWT World Champion, got the third place. Kari Schibevaag from Norway has incredibly improved in this discipline but she left the first place to the British Kirsty Jones, specialist in waves.

On the men side, the battle was tight from the start in Pico das Almas. Only one Brazilian rider made his way through the finals: Ian Glaza Owczarzak. In front of him full expertised KPWT competitor: Jesse Richman and Jan Marcos Riveras. In the looser final, Jesse Richman gave his outmost versus Abel Lago, the 2007 KPWT Wave World Champion. The two talented riders performed very well and the kid from Hawaïï won the 3rd place overall. In the Final, two Kitesurfing nations were represented: Dominican Republic and Brasil. Jan Marcos Riveras from Dominican Republic astonished the spectators on the beach. A pure show man! Ian Glaza Owczarzak, from Brazil, also passed amazing moves and imposed his style. After an incredible heat, the victory finally went to the Dominican Republic and Jan Marcos Riveras.

The whole caravan came straight back to the Golfinho Hotel for the Course Racing competition. As we are writing this press release, the first course race is running. The programme for the week-end is very hectic: Course Racing, Freestyle, Kiteloop and Big Air. No time to rest. Cumbuco is one of the rare spots in the world where you do not have to worry about the wind. The wind is programmed like a ventilator and keeps blowing all day long.

This second day of the Superkite Brasil 2008 will stick to everybody’s memory and become a major highlight of the Kiteboard Pro Wolrd Tour 2008.
50 riders
3 disciplines run in 1 day: Wave, Freestyle, Kiteloop
10 hours of competition...
2 different spots and for the first time ever a Kiteboarding World Cup in Lagoa de Cauipe, the best and most wonderful spot in the world !!!
The day started at 7am with the Wave skippers meeting. At 7.30, all wave riders and the technical staff loaded the Buggies of the organization and hit to Pico das Almas, the wave spot of Cumbuco. From 9 to 11 am the competitors pushed their talent hard to go through their heats. The show will carry on tomorrow morning.
The main focuse of the day was definitely the Freestyle competition in lagoa de Caipe. The show started at 1pm. The “Brazilian teamâ€, supported by their friends and fans performed amazing moves and jumps. Used to the spot and completely at ease with the conditions their level was absolutely unbelievable!
On the women side, a special congratulation to Ainhoa Garcia who managed to reach the third place despite a painfull knee injury. She made the difference in front of Kristin Boese thanks to her difficulty level and the variety of moves. Kristin crashed many times and did not manage to express herself where as Ainhoa went to Backloop, Kiteloop, Backside pass.
The final between Pauline Boussard and Marine Sudre was a very nice heat. They both passed Railey to blind and/or Railey to revert but Pauline took the advantage thanks to the variety and her technical difficulty. Special applause to Pauline Boussard, winner of the women Freestyle first round !

On the men side, many heats were actually very close. The level of the Kiteboard Pro World Tour has become amazingly high. You never know how far the riders will push the limits!
The Brazilian really stood out in the competition. Only one non Brazilian citizen managed to reach the podium. He has already proved his talent on the Tour. He comes from Maui. He’s promised for a very long career: Jesse Richman. The looser final between Jesse and Luis Alberto Cruz was very close. They both have a very high technical difficulty, clear landings and a very good variety. At the end, Jesse made the difference with more difficult moves and a very stylish riding.
The Final was 100% Brazilian: Carlos Monteiro / Jose Evandro Da Silva.
Carlos Monteiro really performed nice heats in this Freestyle first round but nevertheless Da Silva really flew over the lagoa de Caipe. His victory was obvious ! Perfect landings, variety, high difficulty. With 1 KGB, 313, Slim and Kiteloop slim there was absolutely no hesitation about his victory.
