KPWT Essaouira Kiteboard World Cup 2008
Kiteboard Pro World Tour – 10 years anniversary
1 – 9 November 2008
The Essaouira Kiteboard World Cup moved to Moulay Bouzarktoune for the second day.On the agenda, the semi finals and finals of the Wave Masters.8 riders in the starting blocks.
We started with two women : Ania Grzelinska from Poland against Céline Collaud from Switzerland. The current leader of the KPWT, Ania, had no problem to win the heat as Céline is not specialized in Waves. The following heat opposed Kari Schibevaag from Norway against Kirsty Jones from UK. Kari has definitely improved a lot since Brazil but it was not enough in front of Kirsty who made a very good wave selection and really optimized the potential of the waves.
We switched to the men competition with Abel Lago from Spain versus Mitu Monteiro from Cabo Verde.
Mitu was really on top form and put the ocean on fire. He was radical, powerful and caught better waves. Abel performed a very good heat but it was not enough. Mitu went to the final. In the men second semi finals, Jesse Richman from Hawaii met Jan Marcos Riveras from the Dominican Republic. Jesse was very aggressive, very powerful and radical in his way of riding. With the pressure of the title on his shoulders, Jan Marcos, the current leader of the ranking, seems to be less confident ; he, as usual, offered a very nice show but he was not at his highest level. That is how Jesse got into the winner final.
Back to the women with Céline Collaud versus Kari Schibevaag. As we said before, Kari has made a huge progress and Céline is not supposed to be a Wave rider. Kari won quite easily and finished at the third place. The women final was a pure and delighted wave riding session: Ania Grzelinska versus Kirsty Jones. Both competitors were amazing and performed at a very high level. Nevertheless Kirsty was closer to the critical section of the Wave where as Ania was too much in front of the wave. Thank you to these two amazing competitors and congratulations to Kirsty Jones who won the Wave Masters competition.
In the Men looser finals Abel Lago faced Jan Marcos Riveras. Abel has been training very hard since Brazil and had a very nice style of riding and using the waves. Jan Marcos run a better heat than the one before but his performance did not convince the judges. The final word was for Abel Lago who finished at the third place of the event.
In the final, we had a very high level and talented heat between Jesse Richman and Mitu Monteiro.Unfortunately Jesse was unlucky; he crashed his kite in the middle of the heat and wasted a precious time. Meanwhile Mitu showed perfect skills and performed “la crème de la crème†of wave riding. He had a powerful and radical style. He was using as much as he could the potential of each wave. The final decision was easy: Mitu Monteiro, winner of the Essaouira Kiteboard World Cup Wave Masters.

1 – 9 November 2008
The caravan of the Essaouira Kiteboard World Cup 2008 took off at 9am this Friday morning and went to the wave spot next to Essaouira : Moulay Bouzarktoune.
The swell was already very nice and appealing when the whole team arrived. The wind picked up around noon and the show started!
Thanks to ideal wave riding conditions, we reached the semi finals Men and Women. No surprise with the riders still in the competition.
The 4 current leaders of the Men Wave Masters will fight hard for the places on the podium :
Abel Lago versus Mitu Monteiro and Jesse Richman in front of Jan Marcos Riveras, the current leader of the ranking.
Same scenario for the women : Ania Grzelinska will meet Céline Collaud and Kari Schibevaag will have a tough job in front of Kirsty Jones. Unfortunately, Ainhoa Garcia, a very good Wave Rider, had to stop the competition after an ankle injury.

Kiteboard Pro World Tour – 10 years anniversary
1 – 9 November 2008
Welcome back to the Essaouira Kitebaord World Cup 2008 and the Freestyle competition!
In the heat 30, Antoine Auriol performed very nice and stylish moves but it was not enough in front of the strategy and style of the current leader of the KPWT, Jesse Richman. Antoine carried on with a nice show, perfect landings and stylish tricks, in the loosers final against Victor Borsuk ; and this time, he was rewarded and won the heat.
In the final, Leander Vyvey from Belgium met Jesse Richman from Hawaii. We were lucky with the wind as the two riders were very good powered. Leander performed some amazing manoeuvres with very good landings but again nothing to say in front of Jesse’s tactics and strategy. The young kid from Maui is unbelievable. His heat is a combination of all you can think about and he mixes with style the old school and new school. Jesse has the final word and won the competition.
In the women looser finals, with Kirsty Jones versus Marine Sudre, the Australian seems to be more powered and more confident. She performed very good kiteloops and more unhooked tricks which made the difference and gave her the third position. The final between Ania Grzelinska and Kristin Boese was very close. Both of them had a lot of style and technical moves but Ania was more radical and more powered. Thanks to a nicer overall impression, the Polish Girl got the best note of the judges and won the first place.

The Race Direction launched the course racing right after the Freestyle. Jesse Richman flew on the water and crossed the finish line first. For the women, Kristin Boese kept her supremacy in this discipline and won. Other races are planned after Wave Masters and many riders are waiting for their second chance !
Tomorrow is time for the big show in the Waves of Moulay Bouzarktoune. The 4 current leaders of the Wave Masters are longing for this day since the beginning of the competition. From the Dominican Republic, Jan Marcos Riveras, currently in first position, is determined to keep his place and to be at the highest step of the podium. Abel Lago, 2nd, has been training very hard the last month and is ready to fight for his 2007’ Wave Masters World Champion title. Jesse Richman, from Hawaii, will for sure give his outmost to improve his 3rd place and why not win all disciplines! And in 4th place, with his uncomparable style, Mitu Monteiro, from Cabo Verde, has also all his chances to reach the podium. For the women, we can expect a serious battle between Kirsty Jones from UK and Ainhoa Garcia from Spain.
The fight will be tough, hard and exciting!

Kiteboard Pro World Tour – 10 years anniversary
1 – 9 November 2008
The wind has finally decided to pick up in Essaouira. At noon, all riders of the Essaouira Kiteboard World Cup got ready for the Freestyle competition.
We started with the men. No surprise in the first round but a special congratulation to a young and promising new comer on the Tour: Jérôme Cloetens. He is only 10 years old, he is Belgian, lives in Tarifa and is promised for a long career.
The second round was much more interesting with a few surprises. The heat 17 with Vincent Tiger versus Victor Borsuk was extremely close. They both could win but the final decision gave the victory to Victor Borsuk.
Same comment with the heat 22 but this heat reveals the talent of a local rider, Mohammed Hamaini. Mohammed had nothing to loose ; he gave his outmost against the 2007 Wave World Champion, Abel Lago and managed to go through the next round.
In the last heat of this round, Mitu Monteiro from Cabo Verde fighted very hard and brave against the current leader of the KPWT Jesse Richman but despite all his efforts, the Hawaiian talent had the final word.
The two last heats of the Quarter Finals were definitely the most interesting. Mohammed Hamaini did a very good job but the experience and talent of Antoine Auriol made the difference. Matthieu Judic, the Frenchy from La Baule, probably performed his best heat of the year but he had a tough work against the current leader of the Tour, and Jessy finally won.
Four riders are preparing themselves for the semi finals tomorrow: Victor Borsuk versus Leander Vyvey and Antoine Auriol versus Jesse Richman.
On the women side, the heat between Kari Schibevaag and Kristin Boese was very close but Kristin, the 2007 KPWT World Champion, made her way t
