Dear Mr,

Thank you for your reaction. As we explained before you can take your board shorter than 1.65. However for boards shorter than 1.65 and its equipments the standard baggage rules apply.
For boards longer than 1.65 the rules for taking surfing equipments (as explained below) apply.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Sirs,
thank you for your kind answer. Normally 95 % of the kiteboards in use are under 1,65 m but in fact
to use the normal way you need a Kite, lines, bar and harness to practice this sport even the board
is under 1,65 m. Did I understood you right that I'm only able to take my kitesurfing equipment with me
if my board is longer than 1,65 m? Or does that mean a shorter board in the bag with the other parts is allowed?
For kitesurfers like me and my friends well-known at some kitesurfing-forums like oase and hangloos.nl it
would be much easier to book with you company if you would probably update your transport
regulations and add a standard rate for a kitesurfing equipment with a bag containing a board -
normally not longer than 1,40 m, bar kites harness with a weight not more than 25 kg.
Yours sincerely
Axel

I'm about to fly with them to Egypt and I think I have flown with them with kitestuf to portugal before, not 100% sure. In any case, as I understand it the rules are now as follows:
- luggage shorter than 1.65 m, whatever it is, is included as long as it is one piece and under I think 20kg
- weight over = paying per kg
- length over = booking separately (and then you are still allowed a normal size bag up to 20kg)
If you pack a bit handily then you should be ok. If you think you are a lot of weight over, you are price-wise better off booking a surfboard (even though technically yout kiteboard is shorter). They don't measure it once it is tagged as a surfboard. If you're not sure and you don't want any hassle at the airport, just book a surfboard extra, then you're pretty much always safe (but it comes at a price...). Happy kiting!

tl;dr

Their website indicates that a kiteboard smaller then 1.65m falls under normal regulations. So take your kite-bag that is smaller then 1.65m and stuff your kites & boards together, but make sure it stays under 20 kg's.

wat een retard! Just pay the xbag fee, if it's surpasses 20K's and 1.65m!
IF IT SWELLS, RIDE IT

Thanks for your reactions!

@Frieda
Did you try to book your kite equipment with a board shorter than 1,65m? My daughter tried it but she didn't succeed.
The question is: if you have 20 kg of kitestuff do you have pay 200 € on way according to regulations only because you haven't
a boardlength < 1,65?

@Nick I don't want to avoid the 40 bucks but the 200 ;-)

Thanks for your reactions!
sorry - double time

Be careful: the 20kg applies to your total luggage. So if you bring a normal twintip and your kite, don't pack too much else. It is doable though if you put some heavy stuff in your hand luggage, for example your bar.

If you are with a group it's a good idea to put all the boards in one bag and pay for it together.

So far, the regulations of Transavia have been better for kiters than most other companies like Arke and RyanAir. I would make a print of the page about the regulations, easy to find on Transavia.com, cause quite often the check-in personnel don't know the rules that well.

No I didn't try booking a board with them, because so far I managed to distribute everything over one bag and hand luggage. Just book a surfboard, they really don't know the difference and the price would be the same anyway!

Frieda,

thanks a lot for you answer. I'm afraid the will look in your bag and then deny it as a surfboard.

After another 3 or 4 mails they told me: They will NOT accept a kiteboard shorter than 1,65 m with equipment
as sport luggage for € 40 - that's it.

So we will fly with airberlin - with airberlin card we pay 60 € (the whole year): Normal baggage 32 kg and sports equipment 30 kg
noch matter what board lenght (!!) or golf or windsurf!!

Cheers

Axel
