You can hear oon a regular basis at your beach people saying "Why should I join a club" or "Why should I get an insurrance, kitesurfing is a free sport"...
Well here is why you might want to reconsider this and join your local kitesurfing clob and get a third party insurance when kitesurfing!
This story took place in France last week.
To start with, a story in a local newspaper published on Tuesday in La Presse de la Manche with for title: Barneviller-Carteret: Un kitesurfeur sauve in extremis (Barneviller-Carteret: A kitesurfer saved at the last minute).
Then the article goes on about a kiter that went kiting in offshore wind and who ended being saved at sea by the local fire brigade. Then the journalist goes on about what kitesurfing is and so on.
On Thursday, in the same newspaper publishes another article, this time: "Kitesurf, les clubs reagissent" (Kitesurfing: The clubs react).
Following the article published on the Tuesday, the local club president did get in touch with the local newspaper to clarify a few issues.
Indeed, it appears that the kiter who was rescuded a few days earlier was only learning to fly a power kite on the beach and did not let the kite go when he started to get dragged into the water!
And then the President of the local club explain the standard safety rule that kitesurfers follow such as not flying on their own, flying in offshore wind and so on...
This article shows what clubs and kitesurfing governing bodies are here for.
Thanks to initiatives like this, the general public will understand that this was a one off accident by someone with no experience whatsoever and that kitesurfers in general are practicing in safe condition as well as probably saving the local kitesurfers from a ban!
So think about joining your local club if you have not done so yet!
