KPWT Movistar Kite Pro Tarifa 2009
Kiteboard Pro World Tour
1st – 5th July 2009

Welcome to day two on the KPWT Movistar Kite Pro Tarifa 2009. After a chilled party and dinner held at Pacha Mama last night all riders appreciated the 10h30 skippers meeting this morning.
The wind was not at competition requirements this morning so the next skippers meeting was held after lunch at 13h30. Yesterday saw four exciting course races and results for the day are posted below.

The first rounds of the men’s single elimination started off competition day 2. The heats began at 14h15 and continued up until 16h00 with the first round for men completed.

At 16h30 the HAVAIANAS board off competition was held! The huge flip-flops/ boards were dragged into the water and attempts were made to pull off the best maneuver possible.
Abel Lago (SPA RRD), Jose Luengo (SPA, LIQUID FORCE), Alvaro Onieva (SPA, BEST) and Antoine Auriol (FRA, KITELOOSE) participated in the men’s competition. With the final between the two Spanish riders, Alvaro and Abel doing their absolute best with the heavy boards in front of an excitable crowd!
It was quite the spectacle and brought thousands down to the beach.
Alvaro managed to do just enough to win the final heat against Abel and the 900euro prize money on offer!

For the women, Kari Schibevaag (NOR, OZONE), Gisela Pulido (SPA, MOVISTAR), Fabienne D'Ortoli(FRA, NAISH) and Ania Grezlinska (POL, NORTH) took part in this unique event. Gisela handled the heavy board as best she could and managed to take the final heat and the 600euro prize money on offer!
Thank you to HAVAIANAS for their support and this “BOARD OFF” competition.

The wind had dropped off by 18h00 and an attempt was made to run the women’s first elimination rounds. Unfortunately there was not enough wind and after heat one the day was called off. What a fun and unique day on the KPWT Movistar Kite Pro Tarifa 2009!

KPWT Movistar Kite Pro Tarifa 2009
Kiteboard Pro World Tour
1st – 5th July 2009

The first day of the KPWT Movistar Kite Pro Tarifa started today with a skippers meeting at 09h00.
The wind is definitely of Spanish origin taking it’s time to rise in the morning.
The draws for the Freestyle men and women were done regardless and the rules were clearly announced by the race director for all the riders.

A further skippers meeting was held at 14h30 and the race director instructed all riders to prepare for the course racing discipline. The wind increased up to 12 knots and all riders launched their kites in anticipation for the first race of the event.

Race one saw over 45 riders take to the water. Each race included one lap around the strategically placed buoys. Abel Lago (SPA, RRD) started well and worked the conditions perfectly to push ahead of the pack and looked comfortable to win. Bruno Sroka (FRA, CABRINHA) thought otherwise and took the right channel at the perfect time flying past him in the home straight. Great start to the day setting the tone for the races to follow. He went on placed first in 3 of the 4 races for the day.

Fabienne D'ortoli (FRA, NAISH) placed well in all four races and is sitting nicely to further herself within this discipline. Kari Schibevaag (NOR, OZONE) pushed hard in the races and looks determined for the overall title within the next few days, so watch out for the women!

After race four the wind dropped off and the day ended due to light winds.
It was a good day overall and all are looking forward to day 2 on the KPWT Movistar Kite Pro Tarifa!

Forest heeft vandaag de single elimination by the juniors gewonnen. Hij mocht met zijn leeftijd van 14 niet meedoen met de grote jongens, maar hij is toch heel happy met het behaalde resulutaat.

Op zijn website: The heat I was kind of afraid of was the one against Peter Tyuskevich but I had an amazing heat, no doubt it was my best heat ever. I advanced and also won from the Portuguese guy wich made me advance into the finals. Here it would be against Alex Pastor or Mike Blomvall, a pretty though heat between those two, but Mike seemed to convince the judges.
