It is amazing to see around the world the challenges that kiters set themselves and the huge potential for achievement that power kiting can give people. On that note, Flexifoil are delighted to announce our sponsorship of the 2012 Icelandic Challenge.
This incredible feat will see a team of three wheelchair-bound athletes attempting to cross one of Europes largest glaciers - Vatnajokull in Iceland - by Snow Kite in Spring 2012. This crossing, the first of its kind will involve:
Travelling 300km by snow kite
Navigating seven live volcanoes and wide expanses of crevasse fields
Surviving arctic temperatures down to minus 40 degrees centigrade
Tackling wind speeds of up to 50km/h
The athletes – Sean Rose (2x winter paralympian, world champion water skier and X Games bronze medallist) Tim Farr (Vancouver 2010 paralympian) and Ben Hooper (member GB disabled ski team development squad) will be unable to use their wheelchairs for the duration of the expedition and so will be joined by a team of three able bodied buddies, including Flexifoil Team Rider Rob Snuggs. Their success or failure will depend on meticulous preparation, grim determination and a significant dose of good luck.
We're tremendously excited to be working with the guys and being a part of their inspirational story, a story we think is well worth sharing. So we're calling on all kite fans out there to get behind the challenge and support the amazing ambitions of these riders. So...
