In May 2005, our team will attempt a double crossing of the Greenland Ice Cap, kiting and skiing 1,100 kilometers. As well, we are committed to challenging the following world records:
- The fastest crossing of the Greenland Ice Cap.
- The longest kite-ski distance in a 24 hour period.
The fastest crossing is presently 8 days; completed in 1995 by Sjur Mordre, Norway. Alain Hubert, Belgium, holds the longest kite ski record at 271 kilometers; completed in 1995 on the Ross Ice Shelf in Antarctica.
(A Spanish team achieved 421 kilometers in a 24 hour period with a polar catamaran. For more information see:www.tierraspolares.es)
Sculpt the Future Foundation is proud to support Paul, Sarah, Eric and David during their training for Mission one of the Adventure ecology series, which takes place in the Arctic in 2006.
Sculpt the Future would also like to wish the team the best of luck with their environmentally friendly world record attempt for the fastest crossing of Greenland and the longest distance covered in a 24 hour period using a kite.
