Lex Discovers Heaven!
Cape Verde, Sal, Santa Maria.
For me this trip began on the Lisbon Airport, where I was supposed to stay for a few hours, to transfer to Sal. Here I met Matt Taggart, trying to convince his laptop that the internet did work, but the laptop didn’t listen. Lets grab a beer, some food and call my parents that I just found Matt to take care of me.
And finally, after some sleepy hours flying, we came down on Heaven. Quite dirty and dusty for a place like heaven, but who cares, the wind blows your mind out and the water keeps on screaming your name, too bad that me and Matt arrived at night, because I like to see where I’ve just landed. Although, it wasn’t that bad, I slept so well that the next day’s session with Christian and Sigve who I met this day became a killer! It was nice to meet Christian and Sigve, both kiteboarders from Norway, and snowkiters as well.
For me this trip was a kind of special. I traveled a few times before, for competitions and trainings, but this one was one without a limit. I think we were exploring the ultimate limit. We had all sorts of the new kites, with al sizes of lines, in all colors. We had so many spots to ride on, and so many possibilities about having the best time in my life.. unbeatable, that was how I felt down there!
We’ve been kiting at Punta Preta, with 6m swell, wind straight off, such an amazing spot to be on if you want to die with the waves.. the windsurf world cup wave competition was here as well, so we needed to stand up early If we wanted to ride there..
A few kilometers upwind was a another wavespot, in a massive bay, with some nice sites to be on, the most impressive one was Calheta Funda, where the waves were killing as well, but I was also good for a little freestyle between these walls of water..
Another spot on this bay was one where I forget the name of, but we took some perfect pictures of the kites in air, that was fun, just check out the footage as soon as it is possible..
And now, im about to tell you readers about some illegal site seeing kiteboarding.
We went to a old volcano, which was used for salt making. In here it is not allowed for kiteboarding. And we knew that. But we had our pleasures, so we made pictures about kiteboarding in red, salty water hehe!
From there, we went down a bit to eat, and we were having a good meal, while watching the water, but what we saw there was tempting. A shipwreck. But the only problem was: somewhere down this coast was a bay called Sharkbay. Where exactly was Sharkbay? No idea, none of us, so let’s go and take some pictures of riding around the ship. And yes, after riding there for half an hour, a local guy came to us to tell us we need to leave it immediately,
Within a few minutes this bay would have been overcrowded with sharks!!!
The kites we used were the 07 Sport, light and Edge. I made love with all of the sports, and wanted to cheat with the light as well because of here perfect freestyle abilities, but I just prefer the sport, on 15m lines, check out the kiteloopsession pictures..
What I’ve seen about Ozone, is that these guys just came down from the skies to offer their wings to the world.. Matt and I talked a lot about promotion and what ozone is about, and some of my conclusions are: Ozone is all about flying, no windsurfing roots, and that is what you can feel while using this kites.. Icarus would have been jealous
All pictures are made by Christan Nerdrum,
More action pictures will follow.
Next days I will get used with rain and 10 degrees again..
Thank you guys for taking me along to heaven.
Lex Dekker.

Nice story Lex ; )
Be my guest.
