Offcourse it would be nice in English, but this is all part of the cunning plan of transforming all the world to dutch-speaking
Kiten is harde plasser !

Hanglos Boot test

Introduction:

After seeing movie’s as The Most Underrated, where guys were popping very high with those boots I wanted to try it myself. I knew that Slingshot produced very nice boots and I saw Ruben Lenten rocking with those boots at the Kitepunks. I got in touch with Roy Zoon from Q-sports and soon enough I had an pair of them to test.

With the boots came an transfer plate. So U can put them on your wakeboard or kiteboard. Just the way U want. Because my inserts from my kiteboard weren’t so wide from each other I needed any kind of modification to the plates. The plates are made of very hard plastic and it was no hard to change them.

Roy told me that I can customize the laces when I finally did that I only needed to pull 2 laces and it was easy to get the board on or out at the water.

The boots are from the Closed-Toe type. What means that the toes of the boot are closed.

This is made to keep the heat inside and to make sure they fit good!

A disadvantage of this is that U have to buy the right size, otherwise they won’t fit well.

But Slingshot has made this boots from size 38 to 46. So getting the right size won’t be to hard. When U pull the boots on, U notice that they made a maximum holddown.

Your feet will be hold perfectly in the boot and U will think that they are made for your foot.

On the water:

Now it’s getting realy fun. After some home testing in the living room, to feel how the boots fit, I was finally going to test them on the water.

I putted them on a Aboard X-Series 134/39.5. Getting in or out the boots was something to get used to. Even with the modified lace it was strange, I thought, just pop in and go. But it was a little bit different. U need both hands to get in to the boots so a stable kite is a must have.

This shouldn’t be a prob for the more avanced kiter. From on the moment I take off I notice this is something else. My board feels smaller then normal, and I have gigantic much rail in the water. Because I have much more control on the board, I can carve harder then ever. Without hitting the water with my face. Now it’s time for the real work. I hooked out, getting a little bit downwind for then getting a lot of pressure on my rail. For sure I could hold my rail longer so I had more pop for doing a S-bend. This was perfect. I could hold my rail longer then normal so the pop was gigantic. Because of the weight from the boot is the turn in the air a little bit different and a bit slower (what looks better). And of this my landing was a little bit sketchy. In another situation, my board was fell of my feets. But because of the boots, the board stayed at my feet and I could go on. But your knee’s will get the most of the ‘punch’.

Because it’s easier landing with the boots are into-blinds easier and it’s very cool to do your unhooked tricks with loads of power. I used the 13m² more often (normally use 10m²) and tricks were getting harder and higher.

The effect of the boots is noticed very hard when U have an bigger size up then u should have.

This is because the pressure of the board is easier to get away. So in hard wind gusts U will keep control of the board.

The small advantage of this is when u crash and want to take off again, it wil be harder.

My trick for this is to steer my kite from 11 to 1 or 1 to 11 so I am lifted out of the water and go on again.

Conclusion:

Slingshot has created a cool boot which one is fitting very well and wakestyle kiters will used it good. U can hold your rail longer and pop higher then before.

Only putting them on and go on after crashes are the small disadvantages. But for the more advanced kiter this shouldn’t be a problem.

A guy from Belgium, Christophe Tack did also tested the boots and wrote down a little report:

SS driver boots 07

Justin gave me his boots so I could give it a try.

It are the boots with the adapter plates. So if they don’t fit, it’s easy to make an modification.

The big advantage of the boot is, easy getting in, just pull your laces and go.

I tested the boots with an ABoard X-series 131. The board is a little bit small to test it with the boots. So I couldn’t test them optimal. So U need a bigger board the normal if U want to ride with boots.

Another big advantage is the possibility to pop very high.

I was using an SS Octane 14m² when Stefano was using an Octane 12m² and Ian was on a Fuel 9m².

If U have the boots on, U won’t feel the pressure that hard as with pads and straps.

So harder popping is easier.

The driver boots are fitting very well. A little to hard for me.

I would be better off with the SS PB floyd. They are a little bit softer on the inside.

For people who almost want to be stuck in the boots, the D2 boots will be better.
