.
Aruba Hi-Winds is the oldest windsurfing event in the Caribbean. The first edition took place in June 1987 on initiative of local entrepreneurs Anthony Blok and Ruben Croes. This first event was so well organized that the Professional Boardsailing Association (PBA) decided to sanction the event and make it part of its 1988 World Tour. In the next few years the Aruba Hi-Winds developed into one of the top windsurfing events in the world. Former world champions Bjorn Dunkerbeck, Robby Naish and Anders Bringdal are examples of big names that came to our island during the event. Since 1997 the event is no longer a part of the Professional Windsurfing World Tour and it turned into the amateur event it still is.
.
A lot of windsurfers from all over the world still come to Aruba to join this 5-days event. Besides spectacular windsurf, freestyle and kite surf championships the Aruba Hi-Winds also has a full entertainment program. All participants will get a lunch and dinner every day during the event and in the weekend there will be lot of activities organized on the beach. Amstel bright organizes lots of beach games with great prizes to win on the beach in the weekend.
.
In recent years freestyle windsurfing was added to the program and freestylers competes for the coveted crown of the King-, Queen-, Prince-, and Kid of the Huts. The Aruba Hi-Winds latest addition is kite boarding. This year a lot more kite surfers will come to Aruba. Also the level will be up so that is good news for the event.
