Mario Rodwald (GER, North) and Gisela Pulido (ESP, Airush) confirmed their podium places from the single elimination in perfect conditions today.
With the judging zone set closer to the land, the riders were able to pull out their moves directly in the breaking waves and in front of the thousands of spectators at the Westerland Beach promenade.
The biggest surprises of the day were Vincent Tiger (FRA), who made it through the double elimination with six victories in a row, but ended up with Peter Tyukjevich (RUS) who secured his place on the podium, and Nils Wesch who defeated 2008 KPWT champion Jesse Richman.
In the men’s final Rodwald was once again up against Permien, in a well-contested heat. Rodwald performed a front and low mobe followed by a crisp “board off†which proved tobe too much for Permien and taking the SEAT Freestyle 2009 title.
Gisela Pulido faced Kristin Boese in the women’s final, pulling out a great slim chance, front mobe and attempting a rare back mobe.
Competition continues tomorrow with even more wind and a good wave forecast.
