The German Kitesurf Trophy 2010 wound up this year’s tour with a final tourstop on the sunny island of Fehmarn…with excellent results for FLYSURFER and its team riders!
You can read the event report on the brand new German Champion (Race) Gunnar Biniasch, on the next page.
A big congratulations to all of the FLYSURFER and FLYBOARDS team riders from the entire crew at FLYSURFER!
Below an event report by the new German Kite Racing Champion: Gunnar Biniasch
I had already won the last 2 Events in Büsum and Dahme, but Armin Harich (R&D Flysurfer) and Roy Rodwald were still hot on my heels. Also Bjorn Rune Jenson from Denmark, who is leading the European Race Tour was competing, so I knew it was not going to be easy.
On the 1st day of the event there was nice weather, but very little wind. I went out on the new Speed3 21m2 Deluxe and and my Raceboard to train a bit. It was great to be the only one out on the water as the wind was not much more than 6-7 knots. Later the wind picked up just a little and Florian Gruber came out to train a bit with me. It's always great to train with him even though he is on a different team. He is still probably the best German racer next to me so it's great to have someone pushing you.
We did 4 Races on the 2nd day in gusty offshore conditions, which were made even more difficult because of the large amount of seaweed in the water. I used my trusty Speed3 19m Deluxe in winds ranging from 0 - 15 knots. I got lucky in the 1st Race just managing to capitalize on the wind dropping a bit, allowing me to overtake Bjorn because he just missed the upwind mark on the last lap meaning he needed to tack again. I was having major problems with the seaweeds and had to stop twice to remove them from my fins. So obviously I was really happy with that result. Armin was doing well too, but crashed after rounding the upwind mark on the 1st lap. He finished 3rd. In his 1st race of the season Oliver (Pewe) Röhler managed to get 4th place. He was also riding the Speed3 21m2 Deluxe for the 1st time.
Flysurfer and Flyboards teamrider Christine Bönniger was the surprise of the day. She was also out on a 19m2 Speed3 Deluxe. She managed to get 1st Place ahead of Sabrina Lutz who is leading the German Kitesurf Tour at the moment. Flysurfer and Flyboards teamrider Emmanuel Norman did well in the Junior fleet and finished 2nd.
The 2nd race was held on the other side of the shipping lane this time, where the wind was cleaner and there was fewer seaweed. I still managed to get some stuck on my fins on the last lap and Bjorn just managed to beat me by only 50 meters. Armin was close behind in 3rd place again. Oliver got 6th place. Emmanuel got 3rd in the juniors.
In the 3rd race I had a perfect race with no mistakes and I won that race pretty easily. Armin was running a great race too, finishing just behind me in 2nd place. Emmanuel got 3rd place in the juniors again.
The 4th and last race of the day was very close. I was leading most of the race, but once again got weeds stuck on my fins on the last lap. Bjorn and I both took the risk of tacking early and giving up upwind ground to reach the upwind mark. Bjorn took a lot of risk by going fast and not concentrating on going upwind. I decided to go a bit slower and make sure I rounded the mark. Bjorn’s risk did not pay off and he missed the buoy by a meter and I managed to scrape by it and take the win. Armin was having a bit of trouble and crashed a few times, but still managed 3rd place. Oliver came in 5th. Emmanuel came in 3rd in the juniors.
There was no wind to run Freestyle on the 3rd day, so we all just dried our equipment and had a play on the Speed3 21m2 Deluxe on the beach.
So after all that I won the Event on Fehmarn, and so made sure becoming the official German Kite Racing Champion for 2010. I am really stoked as this is my 1st Overall Title ever and I would like to thank all my sponsors! Especially Flysurfer and everyone else who supported me this season, especially my dad and my girlfriend Doris.
Armin managed to get 2nd place in the 2010 Overall Rankings overtaking Roy. Andreas Hanrieder (R&D Flysurfer) managed 4th place overall.
Armin also accepted the awards for the Constructors Championship for Race for Flysurfer Kiteboarding (kites) and Flyboards (boards).
