Peter-Paul and Roland Peelen made a kitesurfing trip to Antigua and send us their feedback..
We went kitesurfing for 6 weeks on a small island called Antigua. We had a great time there. Here is a short impression of the kitesurfing scene in Antigua (because of the wind we could only ride at a spot called "Jabberwock beach".
Some info about antigua:
Lifestyle
SLOW! Compared to the Netherlands, Antigua is really slow, everybody is really lazy. In some point this is very good, but if you want to get something done (as small as getting a sandwich at the supermarket), it takes ages!
Expenses
We where staying at "ruth's place, Which was very, very cheap. But, also very, very crappy. It's about 10min walk to Jabberwock, which is nice. But if you have more money to spend, I would suggest going to the "Dutchmans bay cottages". You have a small bay there where you can kite, which is pretty awesome!
As for groceries. Everything is damn expensive. Everything has to be imported, and the duty pretty much doubles the price. A jar of "nutella" for instance, will set you back a whopping 13 euro's.
Kitesurfing
There are a couple of spots on the island. Jabberwock and Green Island are the only ones that are pretty much always rideable. You have 3 more spots, "momora (good with pure east)", "Half moon bay (good with south- east when it's absolutely nuking")", and "Johnsons point (good with south)". We only kited at Jabberwock. It's a pretty cool spot, has a reef, and a kicker. Behind the reef the water is pretty much flat, so you can build op speed in the chop, and once your in the flats, unhook, do your trick, and ride back upwind to do the same thing on your next run :)..
Anyway, check out our movie, and if there are any questions, I will respond in the comments.
